This looks good. Damn, how much stuff has Tezuka written, he must've done 24 pages a day to get the output he did. My favorite comic of his is Adolf, but I haven't read this one.
The first time I read Black Jack must've been when I was in my low-teens, or even pre-teen years, around early/mid 80s. I've read the entire series over at least 10 times, I've owned perhaps 3 different versions of the books (and now own the 10 volume hardback deluxe set). Tezuka is my favorite manga author of all time, and I rank Black Jack as his best work (although they're all so good it's hard to rank them). Very, very highly recommended.
There were a couple of volumes published by Viz (if memory serves) back in the late 90's. Great stuff, and quite an eye-opener if all you know about Tezuka Osamu comes from Astroboy!
It is published in all europe for more than ten years. Sometimes it's hard to believe the cultural isolation of the US, you could find Dragon Ball Z stickers on the school books of little peruvian boys, years before the first episode was broadcast in the US.
I sure enjoyed the anime OAVs that were released several years ago. It had a more realistic character design approach than the manga and never went into an explanation for Pinoko, but the stories were still strong.

Who would've thought people would be so interested in reading a comic about a brilliant surgeon, performing "miraculous" operations!
Nice post Lisa.

My dream comes true at last. You have no idea how long I've waited for this day.
