I was reading Air up until some stupid flying machine showed up, at which point I gave up.
Resurrection is completely awesome, though I do kind of miss the old artist...
A book I cannot recommend more is CHEW, over at Image. It's such a great story, with a lot of interesting threads, fun art, and great characters. One of the the most fun I've had reading a comic book in YEARS.
Also, BPRD: 1947, if just for the combination of Fabio Moon's art, and Gabriel Ba, two of the best artists in the business (IMHO). #5comicsyoushouldbereading
@PVIII: I have the exact experience. Once Air started looking like something out of early 70s Mad (or, candidly, King City, which suffers the same problems in art and conception) it lost me
Big fan of Chew as well, but, speaking of Gabriel Ba, am perhaps most anxious (hoping?) to see the third arc of the Umbrella Academy. #5comicsyoushouldbereading
@thufir_hawat: Ah, aren't we all! I think Way has his hands full with touring, so it might be awhile. But man, is that book always worth the wait!
I also had a big problem with Air's art. It was very flat, and as you say, 70s Mad. Would've really benefited from a more surreal artist (like Weldele or Jock or something...).
Glad to see I'm not the only one who likes CHEW! I'm sure it'll be a movie or TV show soon enough (really has all the trappings)...not that it's necessarily a good thing. #5comicsyoushouldbereading
I read a preview of Air somewhere (in the back of a Fables comic, maybe?), and thought it sounded fascinating. I'll have to go pick up those collections. #5comicsyoushouldbereading
Definitely, Clark should make a cameo. I think there's some kind of storyline where the ring almost chooses Clark before it end up in Hal Jordan's hands.
Plus, a Superman cameo can get the fire started on another film already.
The TV show and the book only share the basic premise that an event occurs that shifts people's conciousness forward in time. The book centered on a CERN physicist who jumps forward 15 years into the future. The TV show is predictably about a cop/FBI agent--blah, I'm tired of all these sci-fi shows built around cops:
We get. Law enforcement officers are hot, sexy, courageous, and working men and women. But why must all of these shows be built around them? It's become a cliche.
@EthanRing: Well it works better then centering a dramatic sci-fi show around some lazy bum who works at wally world so they will have money for beer and pizza. law enforcement officers make the most since because they are always out there dealing with the world and trying to get things done.
Sounds good. But a question for those who have read the book (and understanding that it may have NO relation to the show!) - after the people saw the future, could they effect it? Or did the book even go up to the actual future date, or just explore what people did with that knowledge prior to it?
@zanyzapper: Yes, they could change what they saw, many did. Also yes, the book does go up to that date and a little bit past it. It's really quite good. I only just read it a few months ago and was absolutely enthralled.
DC's Rebels is one of the best books out right now. The sociopath Vril Dox absolutely shines in this Science Fiction Opera. I plug this book for purely selfish reasons because I don't want it to get canceled. A very underrated book!
