@CmdrHunt (aka Clarence Colton): Robocop was awesome more for its statement on Reagan-era corporatism extrapolated into the near future. This theme was retained through all three movies with diminishing returns, but with the same basic premise of privatization of the police force and even entire cities. Oppressive Capitalist Pigs (OCP) was even seen spray painted in Robocop 3where a urban guerrilla movement rose up against Blackwater-style mercenaries. #judgedredd
Take away Dredd removing his helmet and Rob Schneider Sidekick and Judge Dredd was actually a very faithful adaptation of the 2000 AD series. Heck, it even had an ABC robot. But yeah, removing the helmet (for most of the movie no less) was wa-a-a-a-ay out of character. #judgedredd
@Communist Pope: I actually liked the movie. It was a fun American blockbuster.
As a Brit commented said about Terminator: Salivation (I paraphrase): "When you go and see the latest American blockbuster you go and see the latest American blockbuster. If it's great, then great. If it's pants, you weren't expecting Merchant Ivory. #judgedredd
i have three old issues i got in a grab bag years ago, of Marvel UK's Strip Magazine, an anthology that ran, among other features, Marshal Law! a great predecesor to things like Warren Ellis's Transmetroplotin. also a good look at some of the early work of Kevin O'Neil (who would go on to illustrate Alan Moore's League Of Extrodinary Gentlemen ) #judgedredd
For my money, all two cents' worth, the original Robocop is the best satire on the Reagan years ever, better than Stone's Wall Street, and contains several sequences of excellent film-making that bring an unparalleled emotional power to the story. I'm thinking specifically of the sequence when Robocop returned to the empty home where he lived when he was alive, and the memories of his loving family return to him with stark vividness, while he wanders through empty rooms. The sequence concludes with both anger and humor. #judgedredd
@GreyHammer: Time Cop established that you can't go forwards in time, because it hasn't happened yet. When I saw that, I seriously doubted the logic behind it.
I can't think of any Jean Claude movie that I actually like. #judgedredd
@GreyHammer: The thing is...as an avid reader from the early 80's and going strong, a lot of the visuals were spot on. The Cityscape was awesome and the action was top notch. The gripes unfortunatly outweighed an average film. Firstly why did Stallone go on record and say he was a huge fan..then take the helmet off. Everyone knows that Dredds face was always in Rico. A nice touch for the fans when the comic launched that story. Then the film fucked it up!!! Secondly WHY OH WHY did they include an ABC Warrior...yes thats right, the robot that Rico re-starts is infact Hamerstein from an entirly differnt story in 2000AD. It was bloody stupid!!
Ive always agreed that Cannon really tried...and he was a loyal fan, he just screwed it up a bit. It also didnt help that 'The Ego' Stallone walked 4 times!! Avid fan my arse!! I do think the film had some cool pro's though. The Angel Gang looked authentic enough and the prosthetic work on Mean Angel was great. Aspen looked awesome and I really want voice recognition guns!! The female character was strong and true to her comic source, Megacity and the visuals (excluding the star wars esq bike chase scene), were great. I enjoyed it. Its unfortunate mister...'I am the Laaaaw' had to open his mouth so much!!
Bring on the new film. I hope it builds on the age of Dredd and his vulnrability. I hope they cast Clint Eastwood to play the weathered veteran of the streets. Its only fitting considering Dredd was based on Clints side Profile!!!

@CoffinDodger (If the typos crap. Blame my keyboard): see i went into the movie having never read the comic. so the campiness and the over the top stallone just make the movie like a train wreck. its horrible, but i cant look away for any reason. #judgedredd
@GreyHammer: You think its bad for you!! Trainwreck acting I agree. But for its time it had some damn fine visuals. Like you said though....Stallones OTT performance really didnt sit well with us avid fans!! But I try and forget that stallones behind the helmet!! And wen he takes it off...grrrrr. I try and think of puppys and flowers. Its stops me from screaming at the screen!! KEEP YOUR DAMN HELMET ON!!! #judgedredd
@GreyHammer: I believe he had already agreed to this before he walked. Dredds biggest mystery is the removal of his helmet!! Dispite thinking the cloning to be such a big thing. It pales into a lonley second next to the helmet mythos! Accepting Stallones helmet removal (*Ahem) would have been ohh so much more sweeter if he hadnt been such a proper twat about it all. Infact he was hard to work with on set at all times. Rob Schneider found him particularly intimidating. Theres a scene in Dredds apartment near the end were Stallone pushes Rob to the side. That was real and very unwelcomed! Poor Rob. Do you think Stallone ever realised that they both stared in Demolition Man!! Haha. #judgedredd
@KhaiJB: I actually was Hamerstein!!! The only thing missing WAS the Hammer. In fact the fans in the fan page went soo mad that 2000AD had to run a story (by simon bisley) that showed some kind of old style robotic war. It shows how the robot in the film gets into Megacity and becomes a relic, only to be turned on by Rico and the other one sort of..er....becomes part of the ABC Warriors. If 2000AD and the film have us believe, the robot in the film and Hammerstain ARE infact the from the same platoon of fighting robots. Infact there was a few hundred of the same...Rubbish. Hamersteins origins are completly different in the Kevin Walker early stuff I dont even think his encounters on mars or with Nemesis are even in the same timeline!! Its balls!!! #judgedredd
Marshal Law, on balance, was actually one of the last times 'Hey, look! We're parodying superheroes because they are dumb and we are being postmodern!' worked for me. It was never subtle but it never needed to be. #judgedredd
@Alasdair5000: The mid/late 80's group of Marshall Law, Nemesis the Warlock, American Flagg, and Nexus was so incredibly awesome I actually feel lucky to have been there. #judgedredd

Robo enforced the law the only way a cyborg from the 1980's could - which is by killing off half of Old Detroit's criminal population.
Judge Dredd - favorite future lawman. Robo a close second. #judgedredd

Robo was indeed personable, as he had some memories of being Alex, and developed friendships.
That show should have lasted more than one season. #judgedredd
