This is why i am skeptical about most Marvel movies. The names they've thrown out for Captain America (Brad Pitt! Leo DiCaprio! Will Smith!) have all been more of a wish list then actual candidates. (It isn't even clear that big names make the movie all that great, either; who would have considered Bale a contender for Batman before the first Nolan movie)?
Marvel is like the kid who used to brag about having all the cool Star Wars toys but who, when you came to visit, would say "oh, I let a friend borrow them." #thor
@Wookie1972: I knew that guy! He also had the ultra rare never before seen toy version of CYBERTRON that turned into a really big robot, but it was somehow never allowed to be brought out and played with.. hmmmmmm? #thor
I could have sworn they had already casted Thor with the guy that played Kirk's father...was that just a rumor too, or am I thinking of something else? #thor
I love how DeNiro became a wacky freak in the late 1990s. His creepy stoner in "Jackie Brown" was one thing, but seeing him as Fearless Leader, then Cap'n Fancypants in "Stardust", these were calculated picks of roles for chrissake.
He could have been Uncle Ben in "Spider Man", or Uncle Jesse in "Duke of Hazzard".
You go, Captain Freakout. #thor
It's been a long time since DeNiro classed up anything- did you see that horror movie he made with Dakota Fanning? And by horror I meant horrible.
Jude Law, on the other hand, would make a great Balder. Hopefully a funny one- he was great in I ♥ Huckabees. Especially because he wasn't playing a male prostitute robot who hangs out with a little boy. #thor
@John Hazard: Yeah DeNiro's been mailing it in a lot lately. He was either contractually obligated to make "Analyze That" or he just did it for the paycheck. #thor
@Lassus: I think a guy who is a second or third tier character, who is somehow naturally more handsome, dashing, and heroic than all the gods around him, has to be handled humorously. Plus I do recall a humorous Balder story arc where he got really fat for some reason, then had to get back into shape. Not that they should do that in this movie. #thor
@TemporalSword: He really was great in Stardust. I think he does better as a lighthearted character than as his typecast toughguy.
Anything but the Frankenstein Monster. He was so wrong for that part.
Have they abandoned the all-Asgard idea? It's a shame if they did, but if so DeNiro would make a good Absorbing Man. And maybe (if, indeed, they're going back to the Thor-on-Earth thing) Law will be Don Blake? #thor
It would be great to see Norton as Banner locked up in SHIELD's compound, as he was in Ultimate Avengers. The whole thing had a sort of Hannibal Lector aspect to it, which, considering Norton's cinematic past, would make for an interesting parallel.
@Bongoes: He's been a cannibal since his intro in Ult. X-Men, though he never was shown to eat anyone, just making passing references to having eaten someone or threatening to eat someone else.
Until, of course, that now infamous Ultimatium panel of him chewing on Janet's intestines...
Which prompted Gi(ant) Man to bite his head clean off as revenge.

What I always loved is that it was super-ultra-precious and the coolest thing ever, and yet the guy seemed to let anybody BUT YOU borrow it. #thor
