We know the old TARDIS gets heavily damaged, so presumably what we'll see is Matt Smith's repair job (bodged together from bits and bobs nicked from Amy's house) before triggering the self-repair mechanism which resets it to the more traditional white one they're supposed to be using for the rest of season 5.

From some Moffat interviews I've read, I get the impression that Moffat is a huge Dr. Who fanboy, and seems to have a wonderfully nostalgic spot in his heart for the old stuff. I have no doubt that we'll see more of the TARDIS interior and TARDIS tinkering that was common pre-reboot, along with some other modern revisions of older Doctor tendencies/idiosyncrasies.
I'm actually very entertained to see what comes from this, and how it gets integrated into the show.

That's OK, you're amongst friends here. Your comment is correct that the TARDIS is mostly irrelevant to the story in Dr. Who, except for the occasional episode.
However, its external look is iconic, and its internal look changes fairly regularly, so it is interesting that they are looking for input from children.
Also, you get an extra point for not referring to the TARDIS as a "MacGuffin".

I'm also pretty jazzed to see what they'll do with the TARDIS. It reminds me that I haven't been keeping up with Dr Who enough lately.

It's better than the flying discotheque sign, but the DW TARDIS logo is pretty lame. Hopefully we won't see it during the actual credits, and it will only pop up on the underside of toy packages and during next time trailers.
It does look marginally better in the longer format:

But, frankly, all the Doctor Who logos suck.
Bring back really plane text and spiffy feedback effects, imo.

No, it looked like something that would take about half hour in photoshop.
Something -I- could do in half hour in photoshop, and I'm not that good.
(well, ok, youd have to let me use paint shop pro, but really, that last logo did not look like any money or time was spent on it).
That said, money or time shouldnt be spent on logos anyway. Just do something simple, and whatever it is, your shows quality will be associated with the logo NOT visa-versa.
