This is your final warning. io9 editors Annalee (that's me!) and Charlie Jane are in town, and we're having a meetup at The Magician bar (118 Rivington St), from 8 PM to roughly 10-ish PM. You're invited! Meredith will be there too, with some copies of her new book, Vampire Taxonomy. Come out to say hello, geek out, discuss nanotechnology, and predict the future.

io9 Meetup in New York City Tomorrow Night

If you're in the New York area, come out to meet your fellow io9 readers (and editors) on Thursday, the 12th, from 8-10 PM at The Magician. We couldn't have a meetup in New Crobuzon, so we'll settle for NYC.

Charlie Jane and Annalee (that's me) are in NYC this week, and we're dragging Meredith along with us to host the io9 NYC Meetup. We'll be in the back room at The Magician, from 8-10 PM (and probably a little later to be completely honest).

Meredith will have copies of her new book, so if you find her early enough you might get one!

io9 Meetup in NYC on Thursday, Nov. 12

If you're in the New York area, come out to meet your fellow io9 readers (and editors) on Thursday, the 12th, from 8-10 PM at The Magician bar. We couldn't have a meetup on Coruscant, so we'll settle for NYC.

Charlie Jane and Annalee (that's me) will be in NYC next week, and we're dragging Meredith along with us to host the io9 NYC Meetup. We'll be in the back room at The Magician, from 8-10 PM (and probably a little later to be completely honest).

Free drinks to the first ten people who find me (I'll be in wearing a tie) and tell me what their favorite scifi novel of the past year is. Depending on how drunk I am, I MAY be persuaded to buy drinks for people who can name a favorite indie scifi movie, but this is not guaranteed.

Charlie Jane and Annalee (that's me) will be in NYC this weekend, and we're dragging Meredith along with us to host the io9 NYC Meetup. We'll be in the back room at The Magician, from 7-9 PM (and probably a little later to be completely honest).

Free drinks to the first ten people who find me (I'll be in my Godzilla tie) and tell me what their favorite new scifi novel or comic book of the past year is. You must be prepared to offer a reason why it is awesome! Depending on how drunk I am, I MAY be persuaded to buy drinks for people who can list a favorite indie scifi movie, but this is not guaranteed.

Mad Props to Saskatoon Scifi Geeks

Though there's a snowstorm blowing in Saskatoon today, we had a nice gathering of nerds at the Broadway Roastery. Kirk (yes, that's his real name) even came up from Outlook to join us! And Scot took a bit of time off work to come by. Among other serious topics, we discussed which character in the JJ Abrams Star Trek movie should have been given the Starbuck gender-switch, and I thought probably Chekhov.

Heather admitted that she and her husband played Star Wars music in their wedding. But that's nothing to be ashamed of, when you consider that through this meetup I discovered that here on the prairies there is another human being besides me who thinks Doom is a great movie - it was Phreak711, who (I'm sad to report) also likes Knight Rider. So maybe it's not so good that he shares my passion for tongue-shooting aliens after all.

Pam arrived first and took home a copy of Shadow of the Scorpion. Congrats, Pam!

The verdict? Great meetup, and Saskatoon geeks should have io9 meetups more often! If you're in Toontown and want to arrange the next meetup (maybe not on New Year's Eve, eh?), feel free to use the comment here to set it up. Or start a thread on io9's Facebook group.

io9 Meetup in Saskatoon 12/31!

If you are in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (you know who you are) and feel like meeting up with some io9ers tomorrow (Dec. 31), come out to the Broadway Roastery on Broadway between 1:00 and 3:00 PM. I'll be there drinking coffee and blogging, so come say hi and geek out. How will you know me? I'll be the person in the back with a copy of Shadow of the Scorpion on the table with me - which I'll give to the first person who shows up. Or the only person. It's lonely out here on the prairies in winter.

io9 Meetup in New York City 5/28

You asked for it, and now we're bringing our sonic screwdriver and some alien hordes to NYC for an io9 meetup. Charlie Jane and myself will be in New York next week, and that means all the io9 editors will be in the same city at once — so come get drunk with us and Meredith, talk shit about Batman, and plan for ways we can populate Mars. Bring robots if you have any. We're meeting next Wednesday, 5/28, at The Magician bar from 7-9 PM (that gives you at least one hour of happy hour). Free drinks to the first ten io9ers who show up. After that, you'll have to regale us with action figures or robots if you want free drinks.
