It's probably been mentioned somewhere in comments, but we see a fair bit of Vampire Bill's naked butt on True Blood (not so sci-fi, I know, but but it gets mentioned on io9 all of the time and Hell'lo dirt sex!)

And we had full peen from (ugh!) Cillian Murphy in 28 Days Later. That was totally pointless dudity, too. What kind of hospital just locks you in a room with your wiener out to cure your coma? #sex

@pixysix: I am abstractly pleased by the idea of Cillian Murphy pointless peen . . . but the scene in 28 Days Later, I think, is not frisky, happy nudity ala Planet of the Apes. It's more scary/hospital/experiment nudity like in The Fly. Kinda hot, kinda apocalyptic. #sex

This is straight up Laura Mulvey. She's a feminist film critic who frequently talks about the male gaze in cinema. The presumed gaze is male, so female nudity is there to be pleasing -- the object of the gaze. Male nudity is displeasing to the male gaze, so it has to be combined with violence being done to the body or being done with the body. (I'm a bit rusty; it's been ages since I read up on my Mulvey. But I adored this article, and the issues it brought up!) #sex

We live in a world where anti-gay attitudes are not only accepted but encouraged in many cases. That'd be your reason why male nudity is not accepted right there. Sure, we can have movies where the whole plot revolves around torturing people for their 'sins', (im sure the church secretly loves that!), but show some full frontal male nudity and thats NC-17! Heavens forbid adults see that, they might turn gay! You can catch it ya know!!! Put a movie poster up where a guy wears another person's skin on his face...no big deal. Now if a movie poster has the word porno in it, all hell breaks loose. Any and all forms of violence are accepted in movies, sexuality on the other hand, is viewed on a much harsher scale. Gay themes are censored even worse. Some day, past my lifetime, history books will look back and write about gay bashing as yet another tragic stain in the human history book. They'll write about a time when it was in fact, illegal for gays to marry, or to join the military. Is it ludicrous that people abhor racism, yet those same people call homosexuality a defect, a (terrible) choice, or a threat to society? I think so. Even more so, that people blabber on about 'freedom' when they don't want it for everybody. I mean has anybody studied history?! Religion, for the most part, certainly hasn't done a good service for gay people. That's another rant, but it just boggles the mind how narrow minded people can be. I mean, there are so many assholes out there, why hate somebody just because of their orientation? #sex

I don't understand the assertion that the male body is ugly. And I certainly don't understand straight guys who balk at male nudity with responses like "Who wants to see that?" What an incredibly self-centered view! Plenty of people enjoy the male form. Just because you're unable to view men in a sexual context doesn't mean that nobody can. #sex
