I was really disappointed with this finale. Some of the writing was really bad. I mean, "How do you know so much about Einstein...Einstein?" was just...ridiculous. As was Claire's comment about wanting to spank Sylar.
I hate what's happened to Nathan. I love how he starts off the season recuperating from a gunshot because he was going to tell the world about those with powers but was taught that it was wrong and yet the season ends with him telling the President. What? But beyond that, it's the flip-flopping they had him go through that is most annoying. First he hates his father, then he becomes just as bad as him? Really? I just don't believe that character arc.
I missed Daphne's explanation for why she may have got her super speed and why Matt got his telepathy, but I found Ando's power to be such a deus ex. Although I will admit that I find the power he got to match his character, it's still too convenient.
@DeadlyRaptor: OMG the Einstein line!!! Yes, the writing was awful. I almost did a clip of Suresh's voice-over, just to capture how bad the writing can get. But I decided to spare everybody the torture.
The flip-flops in this show are killing me. Peter should be hospitalized - he's obviously got a split personality. And Nathan? How do you go from the "give everybody powers" candyman to "lock 'em up" fascist in a heartbeat?
In the car with President Worf, Nathan says something like "I tried one solution, and it didn't work, so now I want to lock 'em up." Dude can FLY and he knows people who can TIME TRAVEL ... how on Earth does he think a prison can hold them?
This show used to be about something. Ordinary people, given gifts, trying to save themselves and the world, searching for meaning. Now it's just a soap opera with superpowers.
I have hope for next season, especially with Fuller at the helm, but the "normals vs. supers" thing has been done SO MANY TIMES - X-Men, Watchmen, it was part of The Incredibles, a DISNEY movie ferchrissakes - it just seems like they're gong to uninspired, safe, over-tread ground.
I'll watch the next few episodes, of course, but my expectations couldn't be lower. That's MY superpower.
I can't even muster up some good insults for how trying this show is.
(sigh)
But it's good to know that just playing slip n' slide in the 4400 goo can cure you and automatically lead you to another character that will once again take advantage of your innate gullibility!
This episode was better than most of the season, excluding the few WTF? moments. I like how they've basically nixed all the plotlines to make way for something new. But my biggest problem is with Nathan. I like the idea of him being the bad guy, but why do characters on this show have to suffer a major change in values every fucking episode? I mean, would it have killed them to show a gradual progression of Nathan's ideals? And same goes with Sylar. We watched him change personalities for little to no reason a dozen times this season only to have him...revert to the same ol' Sylar? I thought we were supposed to get some depth with him. And does anyone else feel annoyed that they're changing his Watchmaker backstory to be more 'super'? I liked the idea of this mundane loser with mommy issues becoming a killer.
I hope you're right about Heroes rebounding. They've already scored some points in my book with casting Worf as President.
I hadn't really thought about how Daphne could travel back in time and forwards with Ando as a battery...maybe she can control her destination by thinking about it? I say this as gnash my teeth as I realize just how big a narrative cop-out that is.
@Erinaceus: time travelling forwards is a lot easier (in physics) than backwards. the closer you get to the speed of light, the slower time moves for you. run a few laps around the earth at .99c and you'll be all set
Yeah, my first thought after the episode was, "Okay, so they're jumping right to Marvel Civil War." I kinda hope that having a monolithic force against them might get these various superpowered folks to coordinate- I would really rather see some sort of Justice League/Avengers sort of super-team rather than more soap opera with superpowers.
I was wondering about Peter's current powers- has the formula re-triggered his mimicry, or can he just fly? He obviously hasn't gotten all his previous powers back, as the gash in his cheek hadn't cured yet. I'd guess it's likely he'll get the mimicry back, and have to traipse around regaining other powers.
And I thought Ando's power was pretty cool. Dude isn't there to fight, the dude is there to help- and he's the perfect sidekick now. Plus, now we have some idea why he was throwing red sparks at Hiro in the future- I wonder if it was an attempt to jump-start Hiro's powers.
@Kishi: Yeah you're right about Ando as the perfect sidekick. Maybe my problem is that I just don't really like sidekicks. I know, I know - I need comic book therapy or something.
Also on the Peter powers question: I think he got his old power back, and then immediately grabbed Nathan's power (flying). So I bet he'll have to slowly gain powers back from other specials.
I actually liked Ando's power. I'm tired of the stereotypical powers that we see too often on Heroes. I'm a bigger fan of the more indirect, subtle power-y goodness.
Probably why I liked 4400. Btw, that show's 'superpower serum' storyline was WAAAAAY more interesting than Heroes. The whole 50/50 thing was a great gimmick.
@Smeagol92055: Hmmm, that's true. So he can retroactively incorporate powers from people he met once, even though he just got re-powered? That would be very corn-venient.

And the Season 3 finale was eleventy-trillion times better than the Season 1 finale.
So all in all, for network television fare, I have no complaints.

And he must have a pretty lax job as a Senator if he can skip all his meetings to go hang out at Pinehearst for weeks at a time.

Heroes, you've got 2 eps of Fugitives before I give you up for good.

The formula isn't destroyed -- it was only ripped into a few pieces and left on the floor of the loft, so they can always put it back together. Sigh.
I liked Sylar doing the opening voiceover, thought maybe it meant the end to Suresh doing them, but no.
As I said at the end "Worf is the prezdint?!"

Yeah, they *need* Bryan Fuller at this point.

His power is super-empathy; once he's been around someone with a power once, it's the memory of their associatio that lets him access those powers.
So technically, he doesn't have to go around re-collecting those powers.
