If Moorcock doesn't go full on Jerry Cornelius in this novel, I'll want my money back.

Read "The Final Programme" (or watch the trippy 1970's adaptation 'Last Days of Man on Earth'), and just tell me that couldn't be adapted into a Doctor Who story with a few minor alterations. #doctorwho

@bluehinter: Of course, my major question is, which Doctor is he writing for?

the 10th Doctor's mania seems to fit best with Moorcock's writing style, but if 11 is more of a Troughton figure who gets pulled along by events rather than jumping headfirst into them, that could fit pretty well too. #doctorwho

@bluehinter: Eccleston was the Doctor/destroyer. He was an ancient and hard man who learned (or never forgot) to appreciate life in all its forms, but didn't hesitate to do the necessary. His Doctor had terrible purpose, and was desperate to relate to someone in some way, which is what made the relationship with Rose so compelling. Tennant is a tourist going through the universe like white trash at Epcot center- OOH, looky there's FRANCE! His romance with Rose was entirely built on Eccleston's bĂȘte noire. If Tennant was there from the beginning, it would have looked like any other young people dating and eating cotton candy on the ferris wheel.

To be fair, Tennant has been in more well-written episodes than Eccleston, who had more Davies camp stories than Moffat horror. I don't mean to imply I hate Tennant, but I prefer Eccleston strongly.

I think that the Doctor needs more gothic horror, and Tennant just couldn't, or didn't, do that. I don't expect any of that from Smith, so whether Moorcock intends it or not, that book is Eccleston to me. #doctorwho

@BlueBeard: Sadly, from what I've seen of the book range, the novels now exclusively follow the current Doctor, though they're usually about a season behind. (The last couple of Eccleston novels came out during Tennant's run, and I believe they were still doing the occasional Rose or Martha story while Donna was the companion)

Of course, now the production schedule is completely off kilter, so come December of 2010, who knows which Doctor will be featured in the novels.

My money's on Smith, since he will have already completed his first full season by then, and the production crew will likely send Moorcock and the other writers a few scripts and/or production notes so that they can get an idea of the character and begin writing, even before they have a chance to see him on TV. #doctorwho

@BlueBeard: Mind you, If this was the first in a new line of past Doctor stories, there's no question that he'd be the perfect man to pen a killer 3rd Doctor adventure.

Eccleston's fine and broody, but when it comes to crazy near-future apocalypses, hallucinatory light shows, nuclear weapons, deviant politicians, and highly fashionable needle-gun wielding assassins, it's the Pertwee era all the way! #doctorwho
