@PostMarque: I agree. This movie was a tongue in cheek homage to the great classics of the fifties and sixties. Let's enjoy the look back and then move forward! #monstersversusaliens
I like Halloween. I like Pumpkins. So I pretty much enjoyed this- even without seeing the movie. However, those monster characters are pretty much walkin' cliches. #monstersversusaliens
I enjoied the show. It was funny and the kid liked it.
I am glad to see that it is not going to be a series. 9 times out 0f 9 when they make a half hour cartoon out of a feature film, the toon sucks. #monstersversusaliens
For some reason, perhaps unfairly, I've always looked at Dreamworks Animation as something like an imitation Pixar run by accountants. Obviously, this bit of news hardly shakes that impression. I haven't seen many of their outings, but the ones I have, even the ones people have told me were really great, all seemed empty somehow. Occasionally funny? Sure, but I can't help thinking "Your playing, while technically proficient, lacks passion." On the other hand, there was a moment in Monsters, Inc., toward the end of the movie, where the little girl was hugging Sully, and she patted his back gently as she did it. A tiny moment, about a second long, and it utterly defined Pixar for me. They go beyond the whiz-bang trappings of CG to tell great, emotionally engaging stories. They're not without missteps - Cars and A Bug's Life are fun, but little more - but more often than not, they get storytelling and emotion far righter than almost anyone out there. Dreamworks just seems to see the bottom line and little else. #monstersversusaliens
@karpar: Dreamworks had a some of the biggest misses with regards to challenging Pixar. A Bug's Life vs Antz: who thought that a neurotic ant voiced by Woody Allen would be appealing to kids? Bee Movie: really Seinfeld? You thought it would be fun to make a movie about bees - too bad you forgot the part about actually having a story. Bee Movie was an overly promoted piece of crap. Shrek was fun once. They are now making Shrek 4 and Puss in Boots = $/quality.
My kids watch the Pixar movies again and again. Over the Hedge is the only Dreamworks production that they re-watch. It is appealing because Bruce Willis really did a great job and we love William Shatner hamming it up.
While we enjoyed Monsters Vs Aliens I did feel that it was lacking something. Heart? #monstersversusaliens
Monsters vs. Aliens was a terrific movie, It's a shame to see crap like Shrek and Madagascar continue and thrive when something that was actually funny and original (mostly due to the cast that was chosen for talent and not just for being celebrities). It felt like a film that was made from the heart by people who loved monster movies and good comedy. STEPHEN COLBERT FOR GOD'S SAKES! #monstersversusaliens
The commercial played fine but now all I get is a blue 'loading' circle. It is hypnotic but not really very entertaining. Maybe it is because I live in the dreaded "your region"?
Those bastards. I actually liked MVA for the most part. Sure it had some low spots but I enjoyed most of it. Maybe we can get a spin off cartoon. I could live with that. #monstersversusaliens
Alas, MONSTERS VS. ALIENS was the first movie I've seen in a theatre in more than thirty years in which I fell asleep in the middle of it. #monstersversusaliens
I was reading up about 2D vs 3D showings (they are really scrambling the math about 3D performance). MVA had a wider release than Up, which skewed the totals I saw, even though Up still won the head to head. #monstersversusaliens
Uh ... the blue blob Bob is *also* a classic movie monster-inspired character. You know, the Blob? ? It creeps? It leaps? It glides and slides? That one? So, um ... what's the problem?
God, I love the cracky episodes of Supernatural. They are some of the best. Sure demon-apocalypse and end of the world and Sammy's going local on us but-- YAY CRACK!!

I think they may be pushing for other media with more immediate returns and less risk (TV). #monstersversusaliens

Bob was blue instead of red, but he was just as classic-inspired as the others, with even less of a name change!
I think it's going to be toughest to replace Hugh Laurie's voicing of Dr. Cockroach PhD.
