OK, so there is a lot of negative comments and over-analyzing here (no really, I'm always surprised how much people on this site are unable to relax and appreciate the movie/show without nit-picking on every plot hole), so I'm gonna do a kind of counter-balance and do a big post about why I love the show:
- Morena Baccarin is excellent Anna is a calculative, intelligent, scary, charming, dangerous, predatory and inspiring, all at the same time. She's giving Satan a run for his money for the title of best evil overlord.
- The Lisa character and her real relationship with Tyler is shrouded in mystery. Does she love him? Can she love him? What will happen when Erica find out Lisa is a V? What's Anna planning to do with him?
- Ryan's baby. Is it really his? Is it implanted by the V? Is it an hybrid? Why did the V didn't see it was an hybrid. Or maybe they did and they'll come down on her and Ryan very soon.
- By neglecting Tyler, Erika is sowing the seeds of her own destruction. She's s obsessed by her crusade, she forgot to protect her son. Why didn't she tell him who the V really where? Isn't a priest credible enough as a witness for Tyler?
- Chad Decker and the V uses of the media. I work in the media myself, and this is the best allegory for the power of the media I've ever seen. Great job.
So all in all, I'm disapointed the show doesn't come back before March. But there's no way in hell I won't be there in March. Can't wait.
The thing that irks me about this series is that *no one* seems to be asking pertinent questions.
Whatsername finds out Whatshisname is a V (side note: that's *annoying*), and her first question ISN'T "Okay, what's Anna's *real* plan?" WTF? Isn't she supposed to be an FBI agent? What, they're going to spend a few episodes piecing together what one guy could easily spell out for them?
One of the nice little touches that I didn't notice until episode three is the way Anna blinks. She does this thing where she doesn't blink for a long time, and then she does a triple blink. At first, I though they were just trying to make her look odd, and then I hit me. That's the way lizards blink.
Just watched the lastest episode on Hulu. My question - how exactly does skinning the Vs hurt them? I assume they mean "skinning" as in taking the human skin off of them and not taking their lizard skin off. How would that hurt? Wouldn't it be like a Terminator not feeling its covering? Perhaps their lizard neurons are somehow interfaced with their fleshy coverings?
Most people probably thinks that Chestnut is concerned that he knocked his girlfriend up and she'll find out he's a lizard. I'm guessing he's really concerned because he's had a lizard vasectomy and knows he can't knock her up, and therefore he knows the Vs are artificially inseminating human women at the health centers.
@Al Swearengen: When Ryan got cut it hurt like hell... he had to go to his old V friend to get it sealed up.
I'm assuming that the idea was to peel away the human skin... they cut away though, unless I missed something, we don't know if he actually skinned the guy or not, or if that screaming was meant to fake out the other Vs.
@Al Swearengen: i was wondering that myself. Along with the question of how can he knock someone up while wearing a suit of skin....or how lizard physiology would work with a human being.
...i mean biology not how could they have sex....it's Morris Chestnut, of course she had sex with him.
I like the show and think that Morena is pulling off a good job making Anna a little creepy. Some of the plot points are lame, like Tyler, but maybe he has been chosen to be the appetizer, a taste test if you will before the slaughter begins!
One thing that would make this show more realistic to me is if the teenage son was riding his bike down the street, then stopped at a red light for a few minutes. He'd look around at the people on the street and stuff, maybe clear his throat, then the light would turn green and he'd go to the next light. They could show the entire journey that he took from home, to the mothership.
And while he's on this journey, if he's anything like me, he'd be making up nonsense songs to keep himself entertained. "Fucking shit fuck, gonna fuck the V girl, maybe her mom... mAYBE her moommmmm, yeah", then of course there's that next red light coming up.
That's maybe 35 minutes of screentime, give or take? But at least it's realistic. Actually to make it even more realistic, just get rid of the spaceships. And, the Visitors. I'm not buying that this could happen in real life.
And did you notice how they never use Mac software, when they are using macs? What am I supposed to think, that right now in NYC there's this whole other OS that I've never even heard of, that's way more polished than Mac OSX? That is fucking insulting.
On top of that, the V technology... don't even get me started. It just floats there? And it's all in RED? Why, because red is the "evil" color? Yeah I really believe that.
Oh and one more thing. You mean to tell me, that on some distant planet, a species of life evolved that is the EXACT size, and shape, of the human body, works the same way, is a freaking lizard species nonetheless... yet, all they have to do to blend in is create some synthetic skin that makes them look human? HELLO? This shows how LAZY the writers are.
So, obviously this show is a huge failure. I hope it bombs.
But, don't get me wrong, I'm a HUGE fan of science fiction, and I definitely want to support the genre, but THIS garbage? Hell to the no.
@cylon_conspiracy: Obviously Steve Jobs and Jonathan Ive are Vs. OS X is actually a derivative of V technology. However, their technology was deemed too advanced for the human brain so it was dumbed down and the final result was Snow Leopard.
This show isn't bad, more like frustrating. The producers wasted Alan Tudyk and are wasting Elizabeth Mitchell. The dialogue is awkward, and every time the son is on screen I lose interest. Despite that, Morena Baccarin is great as Anna, and I like the dynamic between her and the reporter. I hope they use the break the clever up the dialogue and make the plot more coherent.
@Presidentpez: How can you waste Alan Tudyk. The guys not some great actor. If he hadn't been on Firefly, no one would know he exists or obsess about him.
@Presidentpez: I've seen Dollhouse and Firefly, and the guy is forgettable in my opinion. On Firefly, he was the one character that I never warmed up to, and on Dollhouse, well Dollhouse sucked, but I still didn't like him. I suppose everyone's tastes are different, but there's something about the guy that reminds me of tapioca.
Everyone's hating this episode, but I really liked it, especially compared to the lameness that was the last episode. Also, Morena Baccarin is wonderfully lizardy. Did anyone else notice when she said "Skin him" there was a little hiss at the beginning? It was a little creepy.
@FrankenPC: Mm. Bad idea. Scenes like that are much more satisfyingly scary precisely because our voyeurism isn't satisfied. It's the Psycho effect. You want more of what you can't have and when it's implied rather than explicitly shown, the mind wonders how frakked up it must've been, making it even MORE scary.
Plus if they'd shown it, we'd probably get a dose of sub-par ABC special effects which would totally ruin the mystique...

I also like that the scale has been ramped up from the original mini-series. The whole invasion fleet seems so much more menacing.

The show already had the weird Obama comparisons, now it's kind of anti-vaxx?
I'm sure it's all just hackneyed story-telling, but man, I can see the crazies just glomming on to that.
"See Martha, I tolds you, the vaccines are attempts by the Reploids to poison and control us."
