Seeing as though the minimum fee is different for actors when they do not speak lines, I think maybe his investors were going under the assumption that they wouldn't have to pay the actors much because they thought there was going to be no dialogue.

usually, I'd be worried if a director seems to be so heavily influenced. I'd be concerned he is going to produce something derivative. But the esthetic of "Moon" was clearly influenced by both "2001" and "Alien" and still completely original, so I'll keep an open mind.
For a second I thought his next movie was going to be a cheesy story about a world run by an all powerful AI who sends people into space so that their children can be mutants with special powers.
I'd compare it to the release of Memento. That was a well-reviewed indie that ended up making 25 million dollars domestically-- great for a low-budget film, but practically a rounding error compared to a summer event movie. But it announced the arrival of a major new director, and one who would go on to helm both quality summer blockbusters (Batman Begins, Dark Knight), and smarter than they needed to be mid-level studio offerings like Insomnia and The Prestige.
@Dr Emilio Lizardo: Moon might not make the same proportion of money that Tranny 2 does, but in terms of skill, of elegance, of being remembered and inspiring others, of being actual ART, it'll be celebrated long after Tranny 2 gets tossed into the Walmart 2.99 DVD bin next to copies of Double Impact and Underworld.
Tranny 2 celebrates humanity's flight towards stupidity. It's the adult version of the old baby game "Shiny keys! Look! Jingle jingle! Keys! Shiny". It trash, and it will be remembered as trash. Every now and then, on the holidays, maybe it'll come on Peachtree TV, but other than that - nobody will ever fucking care about Tranny 2 again.
And once the hordes of idiots are finished paying their 25 dollars after concession to be amused for 2 and a half hours, they'll leave the theatre, wake up the next day and think "what did I watch yesterday?"

I'd say setting is an important part of a movie, and many different movies are the same story if you boil them down hard enough.

I loved "Moon!"

If anybody ever makes a film version of 'Gun With Occasional Music,' I'd love to see Duncan Jones' name attached.

Or, Transformers made more in 15 minutes than Moon has in it's whole run.
I wish it would change the game, but money talks.
