<![CDATA[Star Trek Boldly Goes Where Everyone Has Gone Before]]> Now you too can befriend a generation-spanning SF franchise, with the launch of Star Trek's MySpace page. As well as the pride of knowing that you're on first-name terms with Gene Roddenberry's most famous creation, the page also offers IM buddy icons and desktops of the groovy retro movie posters, as well as the chance to discover just how many other people are pretending to be fictional characters online. Amongst those already friends with Trek are the chief security officer of the USS Excelsior, someone pretending to be Star Trek: The Next Generation and Lightning McQueen from Cars. Live long and roleplay. [Star Trek on MySpace]

<![CDATA[Dr. Horrible's First Story Is Now Online]]> I know, I know; you're very excited about the prospect of hearing more of Joss Whedon's songwriting in his new web-based movie Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, but what if I were to tell you that Dr. Horrible - and his nemesis, Captain Hammer - were already online and fighting it out without any sound whatsoever? We've got an exclusive look at the comic version of the comic opera under the jump.

Indie publisher Dark Horse Comics - home of Whedon's Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Season 8 series - celebrate one year of their web-based anthology Dark Horse Presents this month with a special issue that includes the official first appearance of Whedon's new creation courtesy of Zach Whedon and Eric Canete, alongside new work from artist Tara McPherson and a brand new Umbrella Academy short from Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba:

The premiere of Dr. Horrible provides a fitting symmetry to the anthology's first year; the lead feature in its launch issue was another Whedon creation, the intergalactic girl band Sugarshock.

<![CDATA[NASA TV Show Reminds People Of Good Old Days]]> NASA will celebrate its 50th birthday by going on a charm offensive and trying to remind you that it can still be really, really cool. At least, that's the impression given by the announcement of a new half-hour series, NASA 360, that aims to show how the National Aeronautics and Space Administration has made the world a better place.

The show, produced by NASA's Langley Research Center, will remind people just how much they owe to the organization, according to executive producer Mike Finneran:

Our goal is to show how NASA has changed and continues to change all of our lives in a positive way... We do this by examining how technologies developed by or for NASA are being used in everything from space exploration to everyday consumer products.
In order to reach "the kids", the show will be available on YouTube, MySpace and Facebook, while their parents can watch it as it airs on public television. Rumors that NASA also plans to buy a flashy red sportscar and is thinking about getting an earring like the young folk are still unconfirmed.

<![CDATA[Force Your MySpace Friends To Watch Red Dwarf]]> Soon your MySpace page can feature clips from shows like Doctor Who, Torchwood, Red Dwarf and other BBC scifi shows. The BBC has launched a Worldwide Scifi MySpaceTV Channel (mouthful much?). It's a nice collection of videos, including the one where Peter Davison (yes!) regenerates into Colin Baker (boo). You can add and subscribe to them through MySpace, and embed the video to your heart's content. Just don't be peeved when Captain Jack doesn't hit you back with a giant "Thanks for the add!!!" graphical comment. [Outpost Gallifrey]
