want want! since i read little brother i've been absolutely obsessed with DIY projects, even if it's taking a little bit longer to get some stuff started myself. Just curious, has anyone out there read anything else by Irvine? He's done a few other novels as well as come comics and a media tie-in for Supernatural I'm more kinda curious about his last book, The Narrows. Alternate WWII set in Detroit about a Ford plant making Golems for the war effort.

If I hear the word "post-racial" again, I will strangle the first person I see. All this talk of this nonexistent racial barrier makes me sick. Black people in the recent past couldn't become president not because of their color, but because they were crap and uncharismatic. I mean, Jesse Jackson? Come on. All you have to do to break this illusion is see how many people of the "ethnic background" (kind of nondescript since being white is also an ethnicity) are in high governmental positions. And there are quite a lot.

I don't think President Obama is going to change that in only 8 years; racism and homophobia are too entrenched. But it would be really nice to have happen.

He's not going to produce miracles -- I just want him to rein in the money oligarchy, make science a good thing instead of a dirty word, take advice from someone other than the "Moral" "Majority" types, not start a pointless war, not piss off the rest of the world... basically just undo the stupid shit of the past 8 years.
