@bendandflex: It's called hitting different reply buttons.
@bendandflex: As long as it's in the same comment thread, it won't mess up. It's useful for replying to multiple people at once without cluttering up your own thread with your own replies.
Keep an eye out for the html tags, those are what we call comment links. Don't let them get all bunched up and weird. Make sure there are two sets of angle-brackets and the @, :, and commenter name are useful but can be removed or changed, allowing you to do things like including Camille's name in the middle of a sentence without adding unnecessary punctuation. That is useful in using another commenter's post as evidence in an argument.
This has been advance commenting with Ghede. Happy posting.

Just put the Earth in a nice spend thrift trust so I wont go and squander it too soon. Maybe a Crummy Withdrawal right so we can get some gift tax benefits.

"Nerd" is still valid, and there really isn't any other term that could take its place.
"Geek", however, has taken a beating.

i know of a couple of friends who are hardcore nerds and i am not one of them. i always considered myself a good old fashioned, biting heads off of things geek.
on the revenge of the nerds scale i would be a Booger for sure.

I personally am organizing the Canadian factions of 4 and 5. Everyone who supports 4 can meet at the Tim Horton's up the street. Everyone who supports 5 can meet at.... the other Tim's slightly further up the street.

Answer 5: it's the only prime solution for these troubled times.
Also, Answer 4 is for Cancer. You don't like Cancer, do you?

And besides, everyone who votes for Six gets indescribable pleasures from dubious heavenly beings. But you wouldn't know that unless you voted for Six. Which you didn't.

And in doing so we leave the realm of nerd and geek and descend into the treacherous world of the lecherous sci-fi fans. The things we do with our imagination.

What number is CJ? A TEN OF COURSE HURR HURR
03/27/09
Can we go even further? Maybe we can make tangents as far as the eye can see or tangential loops that encompass all known reason or thought.
As 4 says "Yes we can".

That said, I have long considered myself a Geek what with my refined social skills - social engineering, if you please - I have always decried the balkanization of all our brethren. The Nerds, Dorks, Otaku... Any number of groups should fall under this umbrella.
Why? Because it was popular kids and jocks and what have you that helped drive a wedge in high school, but it's mass media and advertisers that have taken up the mantle... I forget the source of the quote, but saying what these people do is advertising is like saying storming Normandy was a walk on the beach. We are a fragmented demographic that they will fatten with garbage they create, and we'll wonder why our liver is gone when they tear it out to devour it before moving on to their next mark.
And that's what it is. They make garbage that follows the 80/20 rule, launch advertising campaigns that last for months and rake in hundreds of millions of dollars because they put batman on screen again. Something dear and personal to us has been turned into a god damned weapon to strike us right where it hurts.
To hell with them! We should be watching each other's backs. We should know how we are weak and how we are strong. Things that we love cannot be something we view with a critical eye and this is why ALL of us, every once-socially-outcast group that the mainstream has embraced MUST take up the same banner!
03/27/09
I've always had a love/hate relationship with my 'nerd' label though, I was a nerdy cheerleading captain, so it wasn't HELL or anything - but I never fit with either group well enough to feel comfortable.

To paraphrase Paul Mooney, "Everyone wants to be a nerd, but no one wants to be a nerd."
