    You say it's awesome, then that it looks like Cloverfield and Predator.

    What would be awesome is a creature that doesn't look like every other movie alien, grabboid, and Blade vampire for the past decade.

    I swear, they spent about a week on production design for this movie.


    P.S. He's red for the same reason he has 200 independently moving eyeballs and bare skin in the ice- no reason.

    why would it have red colouring on an ice planet?

    and, character design aside -> snow + motion blur + shaky cam = mess.

    @goldfarb: Maybe it blends in a different part of the light spectrum, or it's prey is colorblind? After all, hunters wear bright orange snow camo when hunting deer, because it makes them visible to other hunters, but no more visible to the deer.

    @alphanumeric1971: Alastair Reynolds had eyes inside the mouths of his hamadryads in Chasam City. Makes a weird sorta sense.


    When the critter above has its mouthparts fully extended the eyes at the side of the head are blocked. It's good to have a targeting system for the final strike. A bit like the Jacobsen's pits in the mouths of some snakes.
