<![CDATA[When the Alien Furries Dance In Spring]]> If you're passionate about furry creatures, then this alien fashion should please and excite you. Though it's hard to say whether what we're observing is fashion, or just a group of naturally hirsute extraterrestrials.

These images are from a series of sculptures and concept designs called Soundsuits created by Nick Cave - not the singer, the artist. Here you can see his furry suits at rest, looking very alien indeed. Cave's eye for the absurd and otherworldly is delightful. Apparently many of his suits make musical noises as they move, especially these you see below, which are covered in adornments.

These two outfits look to me like spacesuits:

And of course this is clearly a cyborg who has merged her own body with the Earth itself. Or maybe it's Swamp Thing's cute younger brother.

Cave is a former fashion designer, and you can find out more about his latest work at Feuilleton. (via Ecstatic Days)

<![CDATA[Listen To Nick Cave's End Of The World Mixtape]]> Enjoy a taste indie god Nick Cave's musical compilation for the post apocalyptic move The Road. The BBC did a small special on Cormac McCarthy's adaptation onto the big screen, dubbing bits from his Oprah interview and here and there. But the best part: about 3:30 into the package, they debut some of Nick Cave's soundtrack for the movie. It's hauntingly beautiful and a bit melancholy, which will fit in quite nicely with the whole, "the world is a burned out shell of nothing and we're all going to die" theme from the movie. Thanks to Quiet Earth for finding this gem. [BBC]

<![CDATA[Nick Cave + The Road = Most Depressingly Beautiful Movie Score Ever]]> The man with saddest songs in the world is penning the score for the world's most depressing post-apocalypse flick: The Road. I can't imagine a musical mind more equipped to deal with the vast emptiness and hollow feeling that one gets from reading Cormac McCarthy’s novel on which the movie is based. In an interview with the LA Times, Cave gave an update on the production of The Road.

When asked about his editing process while writing music Cave said:

It’s how I write: A song that’s maybe five to six verses long, I write 20 verses and then I chop, chop, chop, chop. That’s always been the case. I can’t let something go until it’s exhausted, so I have to edit. I’m always editing. I find editing hugely exciting. Taking something away from something can do extraordinary things, whether it’s music or writing or in a film. In film, it’s extraordinary what happens. We’re working on “The Road,” and a new edit gets sent every three days or so and your way of seeing can completely change from it, from just leaving a lingering look for three seconds longer or something like that. It’s very much the same thing with lyrics and music in general.

So it sounds like the production and editing on The Road have been very fiddly. I can't wait to hear Cave's score when the flick hits in theaters on November 26.
