Someone needs to go back and re-document this with a better camera...

It got taken down, but for those who haven't gone looking; I found it!

As GalvinImbibery says above, some sciency guys think it might actually be knots of tubifex worms.

    [deepseanews.com]

These worms will clump together tightly but these things appear more like nets or sheets of tissue rather than separate strands. I'm still leaning toward a viral campaign for a movie or perhaps a new entree at Applebee's. Whatever, it certainly has peaked my imagination.

For those of you who doubt the existence of remote sewer cams, this a clip from a company in Portland, ME who inspect pipe systems with a little track-driven camera probe. Here they encounter some more active lifeforms:

And now there will be some super-experts saying that the mole looked totally fake. This company has a bunch of clips including root cutting, a seawater intake pipe, and shots of their bitchin' 4x4.

It looks like a very clever special effect- maybe a combo of cgi and a real organism. But check out the movement of the water flow in the "sewer". I imagine that's a small model and not a man sized sewer that someone can walk thru. The flow just doesn't seem powerful enough for how "deep" it is. Also the camera looks too smooth, and not hand held.

@robotsattack: I'm thinking it's all practical effects with clever editing. Good old-fashioned latex, puppetry, Kayro syrup and whatnot.

It is meant to look like video from a remote camera in a smaller sewer pipe. This kind of equipment is in use, check out the system used by the city of Arlington, VA. It can inspect pipes as small as 6" across.

.@Palmerlime: Oh.. and the speed was adjusted, too. It was sped up to make the slime move faster. I pulled it into Final Cut and played it backwards. The string is obviously being picked up off camera and then pulled. In reverse and faster, the movements behave differently.

    I'm done now.

Its real. Its got to be. Its not a viral video. Its premoting nothing. If it was released whilst leading up to the cinema release of 'Slither' then yeah I would be dubious. But if and I mean a big 'IF' this shits (sorry), fake then the CGI is big budget movie quality. This looks very real. People are finding new specis all the time in undicovered parts of Rainforests. Weve discovered more of space than our own oceans. Why not find a new species closer to home. THE SHIT MONSTER. Watch Attenbourgh get his team together for a shit monster special. Yummy!!

@CoffinDodger (If the typos crap. Blame my keyboard):

Maybe the CGI is big budget movie quality because.... um, its for a big budget movie?

Or, maybe its not CGI at all but simple latex and air bladders, old school Rick Baker style. We're so used to seeing bad CGI that when something that looks "too real" comes out, we forget the easiest alternative.

Clearly this is viral, as no sewer-cam has either the resolution, or the nice movement this has.

@Pope John Peeps II: What exactly leads you to say that no sewer-cam has the resolution for this?

Those cameras are used to find problems in sewer lines that people cannot fit inside of, and if I can buy a home camcorder with 1080p resolution, I can imagine that commercial cameras used to inspect pipes can be had with YouTube video resolution.

@smcallah: Have you ever seen a pipecam? It's bascially a giant armoured cable they jam down a pipe with a large machine. It has extremely limited mobility, and generally not a great picture quality as it doesn't really need one. It's just to find tree roots and cracks and the like. Anyways. Until you see one, don't bother inventing reasons why this could be plausible.

It's clearly not. Anyone who thinks this is real needs a hobby.

@dethklokso: Vongforming is less of a danger than us realizing we're part of a poorly-plotted and adolescent universe.

Now if you'll excuse me, my parents just died in a fire caused by the Emperor, and I have to go train to avenge them by killing the agent who caused their deaths who also just happens to be my childhood girlfriend, a smoking hot, large-breasted spy.
