I keep thinking that I will eventually get tired of parodies like this, but turns out no, I still love it every time I see it. I'm a fan of that Punisher one, although they could have gone a little further with the Cubist style. As they are they kinda look like a bastard love-child between Cubism and Surrealism, although that is not a bad thing.
I always thought Picasso was inspired by heavy drug use, combined with mixing brown and white booze, and being hit in the back of the head with a brick strapped to a 2x4 fired from a cannon. And nightmares. #pablopicasso
I love Hokusai's work. And i never knew he delved into the erotic arts. Good show, io9. Now I just need to figure out why the Japanese are obsessed with tentacle porn. #pablopicasso
@Starwatcher: I don't think i've ever heard/seen anyone use that phrase outside of my design theory professors! You're a MODERNIST, aren't you?!?! #pablopicasso
@Althestane: Like Popeye said, I yam what I yam. Medernist? I don't know, that could mean a lot of things. Philosophically, I'm neither a traditionalist nor a post-modernist, so yeah, I guess you could say I'm a modernist. #pablopicasso
It's really not all that surprising that Picasso was inspired by that stuff. Japonisme had been a big thing in French art circles since Impressionism, when Japan opened itself back up to the world. Pretty much every big artist from that era took cues from ukiyo-e works and such.
In other words, the anime and magna obsession in modern nerd circles is not a new thing. Back then, though, it was taken way more seriously.
And that's how I spent a year in Osaka without ever eating takoyaki. I like my appetizers sans rape, arigato gozaimasu.
p.s. I just sat here for 5 minutes trying to decide if I thought the action in this picture is consensual or rape and whether or not I should use the word rape in my comment and what that implies about hentai and my perception and and and my head just exploded. This link helped. #pablopicasso
@naugahydeinplainsight: ...neither of us said anything for the people whom have yet to watch the 13th ep of season 3. But yes, he did.
I am happy though to see Price go with all of them, and not be hung out to dry. I also liked how Cooper called in Harry (Crane), he has a lot of respect for him I'm sure. I'm glad they are not just 'replacing' people, but moving them on with their lives. #pablopicasso
@MrPliskin0: Best episode in a long while. Also glad to see Pryce join the mutiny; that'll teach London to book him passage to India.
(As to spoliers, it's been two days and we didn't really give anything away -- until this exchange, anyway ;-) #pablopicasso
@naugahydeinplainsight: 'Can't we just take everything?' Then you see that smile on Coopers' face.
Damn I can't wait till season four... where the hell is my damn time machine? #pablopicasso
@NonElitist: yes, most of them steming from the missionary movements of western europeans as they attempted to convince the japanese, indeed all their colonies, to be ashamed of their natural anatomy just like old world europe. #pablopicasso
@tetracycloide:
Except Japan was never colonized by the West and they kicked out Christian missionaries in pretty short order. Sometimes cultures have their own weird tics without any help from Europe. #pablopicasso
@Zack Stentz: just because they were, as a nation and a culture, more resistant to colonization than their neighbors does not mean they developed without any judeo-christian meddling. there was an underground christian movement in japan in spite of the many edicts that forbade it practice. #pablopicasso
@tetracycloide: Dude, what alternate universe did you watch on TV last night?
And as far as I've seen over the years on their TV, videos, books and magazines, the Japanese culture doesn't have the word "ashamed" in their vocabulary.
Thanks for the revisionist try, though... #pablopicasso
@NonElitist: i'm not revising anything. you're the one unwilling to accept it for what it is without condeming it acording to the practicies of your own culture. who told you octopus sex was a 'real issue' when depicted in print? what's wrong with being unashamed about what someone does or does not find titilating?
you seem to be under the mistaken impression i'm saying the octopus on woman action is a result of western influences, this could not be further from the truth. your culture is so ingrained within you you've assumed i'm blaming the west for the extream fetishisation when i'm actual endorsing it and condeming those that would deride it as 'wierd' or 'unsual' or 'something to be ashamed of.'
@NonElitist: if it's merely an argumentum verbosium then revealing it as such should be a simple exercise and yet i see no such redress in your post. in fact it appears to have no point at all. #pablopicasso
