This episode could just as easily be mocking all those silly lawsuits you hear about where some desperate writer sends in an unsolicited script before registering it with the WGA or the copyright office. Years later they sue when some producer creates a movie based on a similar premise but they have no real proof that they came up with the idea first.
Ok maybe somebody already mentioned it but I think Avatar copies even more from Clifford Simak's "Desertion", which basically covers the same concept.
I think Avatar adds war to the mix and that's about it (from what I see from the trailers)
That's kind of sad because it assumes that all alien species thinks like us. #avatar
South Park is the most effective social commentary out there, everyone gets nailed, left-right, as it should be. I'm really happy they put the episodes up for free now, I'm watching lots of ones I've missed over the years.
Personally, I think the part where Cartman was flipping off the movie theater was a jab at us sci-fi fans that are impossible to please, and are always pointing out that something is derivative (as if anything wasn't).
Sometimes I think that's more a case of bragging about your "genre knowledge" than being willing to accept a piece of entertainment on its own terms.
I really liked DOON and loved "Bored of the Rings" (rereading the originals, I often think of the parody names), but since I've avoided this Twilight crap, I'll skip this one since I won't get the jokes.
Maybe pick it up in paperback for the laughs at the deliberately-bad prose; some of the lines in this excerpt are pretty funny. #nightlight
Hmm... I'm somewhat interested in reading this, but I barely know anything at all about the source material, so I don't know if many jokes will hit home. I'm also not even remotely interested in reading Twilight... maybe watching the movie would be enough. #nightlight
I have the same problem with this idea that I had with that Da Vinci Code parody that someone did a while ago.
A parody of bad style is funny, yes, but it's also bad style. After about ten pages, when the joke's grown cold, you're basically just reading another shitty novel. #nightlight

SP always loves to go after anyone with a huge ego, so Cameron's a prime target. The scene above is totally mocking Avatar.
Plus, any excuse to squish Smurfs is [Cartman voice] totally cool and awesome.[/CV]

Granted it's only a parody of a couple scenes from Twilight rather than the entire book, but it has dragons! And Fisting! #nightlight
