I just listened to the first part of the Babylon Podcast interview of J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5's creator), and it shed a disturbing bit of light on this situation. He said that while some studios like Paramount have cooperative efforts between divisions, Warner Bros. set up a situation that creates interdepartmental competition. Every department within WB is required to achieve 17% increase in profits over the previous year, and since cooperation between departments will generally result in two different departments allocating portions of their annual budgets to a project that only one of them will show a direct profit from, it's in each department's best interest to avoid cooperation at all costs (WB's syndication dept. still won't touch Babylon 5 because of how much enmity there was between them and PTEN, where B5 was born).
So, now you have DC Comics, which ostensibly controls the DC characters. You have WB's movie division, which controls their base movie business. And now you have DCE, which is going to be dipping into both of their cookie jars, all the while knowing that every time they release another movie like The Dark Knight, they'll hit their targets for the year pretty easily, but they'll just set the bar even higher the next year. So, all of this spells big things for the future of DCE, but whether it'll be big success or bigger failure, we won't know for a few years at least.
I wish they would just stop!!!!! Leave Marvel and D.C alone!! Just stop trying to make it mainstream or more relatable more human. You know what happens when you let movie studios help you get Eric Bana's Hulk or Superman Returns.
@Mudderofcanton: I agree. I would much rather watch fan-made, shaky cam comic-to-film adaptations. Any day.
Sorry. I am not being sarcastic to be mean. Marvel is a movie studio. DC is part of one of the largest companies ever. There is no industry without business. It sucks at times, but if you are going to get upset at companies for being companies, look past the comics industry. There are worse things happening with worse companies and at least the printers are still rolling. Right?
Dr.Quatermass: I have to say Dr. You are once again spot on with that oberservation and anything I am about to say that contradicts this statement is strictly for humor sake. was starred

@Bongoes: Being jerks and cutting off everyone else's distribution is a fantastic way of undermining your business and forcing the creation of a competitive distributor.
We'll I dont know Paul but I respect the fact that he tried to be true to the writters/artists and to the industry. With that said, it looks to be a war between Marvel and DC right now, and to be honest it may not be a bad thing to have some hands from the mama ship organizing things.
They both need to streamline their titles (how many superman titles? how many x-men titles? How many timelines/alt history/worlds?) and organize things abit.
That said, I worry about every comic book story being made for the sole purpose of being sold as a movie/video game/action doll. etc.
Quesada is one to talk. Marvel survived b/c of the spiderman/ x-men movies- not b/c of his editorial direction of Marvel and the shamless amount of x-titles he keeps on pushing out.
Joe Q is an idiot, and that quote, from the head of the short money studio that brought you such brilliant ideas as the Spiderman/Mephisto deal storyline, the Elektra, Daredevil, FF, Hulk and Ghost Rider movies, and decided to charge ten dollars for the smallest action figures currently in stores today. He's an infamous dope himself, and he's burning all of his fan support.
Ihave no idea where DC plans to go ith this. Even after reading io9's ideas. Hopefully onwards and upwards. But the real question on my lips....are those book ends real?? and where the hell can I get them??
