    You gotta love the fact that the effects guys have added the glow and reduced the contrast in an obvious attempt to tap into the Leia look - LOL. If they wanted they could have made him look like he was actually there, but no, it's cooler if he has that flickering feeling...

    @mactabby: Yeah I like that too. Clearly they added the blue outline as you'd have to be a day one Color Keyer to not be able to reduce that outline.


    Matching the movement to the Jib Camera is pretty impressive. one might say

    @jordan.w.s: It's not two dimensional. The cameras in the studio can pan and dolly and the hologram responds accordingly.


    It allows for more three dimensional directing.

    I thought it was quite silly. I knew they were touting this "holographic" technology a few days before the election but it was quite disappointing and fake. I think that's probably why they didn't show it more often.

    @danramarch: I think when you listen more to what they're doing it becomes much clearer how cool it is.


    That sounds kind of silly, I know, but it IS very cool. They can move around the studio and the hologram updates itself based on where the cameras are. It has a lot of potential.

    Gah! The technology, while nifty, is *not* holographic. The images it produces are *not* holograms.


    While it's impressive that they're taking the video feeds from 35 cameras, combining them into a 3D representation, tracking the positions of the cameras in each studio and splicing the resultant image into the video feed, it's still Hollywood special effects and gaming 101 graphics.


    We are *not* talking about actual holograms here. Neither Wolf Blitzer nor anyone else in that studio actually sees a floating, 3D image in front of them. It's all done on-screen.
