Wait, iron giant? are saying you want a sequel? or there already is one in the works? its one of my all time favorite films, brad bird is one of the most talented directors out there
CG anime movies shall and always will = EPIC FREAKIN FAIL HAHAHHAHAHAHAH! You stupid morons keep screwing up all you want. You'll all end up with a crap stack of film/discs etc at your door with theters getting the picture and demand you give them and everyone else their hour wasted of life back. Seriously, stop trying. It's sad and embarassing. Cg will NEVER EVER EVER be liked or even tolerated by everyone. It's a dead form of whatever ass it was crapped out of. That said they have just wasted a crap load of money n something noones gonna go see. This box office is gonna be more entertaining to watch than Batman and Robin's epic fail.
@megas88: I dunno bout that there's a whole generation (my dad's) who really loved astro boy. They'll be hitting nostalgia and the kid's market. Not to mention its a globally loved series, the Japanese one at least, I think if it gets decent reviews it'll do well. TMNT wasn't my fav CG movie but I didn't hate it. I think you might just have issues with CG movies.
CRT ALT BINGO! But dude, cg takes away heart from everything. When you look into the eyes of an anime character you see a soul. The energy of someone who draws is put into them. With cg all you see is an empty void of piss and decay. Now that my deep response has been recorded let me tell you something that you can't find done in a cg movie. FARTSSSSSSS! PPPPPPPPP. Comedy right there is better in toons. Would the loony toons even have life if cg. HELLLLLL NOOOOOOOO. Y? Cause they have withstood the tests of time and brought about an age of comedy for all kids to enjoy in the 90s in which inspiration was plentiful. If you have trouble understanding this then go search for Animaniacs. You'll understand soon enough. Then search Freakazoid.
The action looks good but whats with the crappy rendering? Maybe I'm spoiled by Pixar but damn those guys need to go out and buy Renderman pronto!
Even Bolt ( which is under the Disney House but over seen by Lasseter ), Looks like its in Renderman ( because the Disney animation toolset probably didn't cut it and looking at their past 3D animated movies I would agree )
@dOk: It's certain that Imagi uses Maya and renders in prman...and the look of this has nothing to do with renderman but rather the shading and texturing, and the skill of the lighters...which is, at least from this low quality clip, quite flat and unremarkable...perhaps an attempt to emulate the earlier styles, given that Imagi also did TMNT which looked pretty good for it's budget.
You could be right... TMNT looked really good and I was hoping after watching this that it was closer to test footage than what will really be in the movie.
@dOk: The carppy look is not because it uses any render engine, pixar have a gigantic renderfarm, they also develope some exclusive tech that they dont sell with the retail renderman. the problem in rendering is always processing power.
@ZivenMunier: "the problem in rendering is always processing power" No, I'd say a more common problem is lack of skill on the parts of people lighting and setting the image to be rendered.
Seriously, this is a work based on the most dynamic, emotive, gifted animator in the history of a nation, and we get the stiff plasticky mannequins? Ugh.
@bakana: rendering quality has nothing to do with the amount of processing power you have...it's shaders and textures and lighting...and then compositing on top of that...
as for Pixar's 'exclusive tech'...it's just as problematic as everything else out there...

Is there no better way you can phrase that? It just begs so many disgusting images.
