@wanion: at this point selling it on the 3d would indicate how horrible the movie is. If they avoid it then they likely have something worthwhile to sell it on. #piranha3d
@zark169: It's Piranha 3-D, what could be more worthwhile than killer fish? Also, it's directed by the guy who did Mirrors, which is the movie about Keifer Sutherland yelling at his own reflection. #piranha3d
@wanion: That certainly helps... (?) I'm mainly thinking of "My Bloody Valentine" and the fact that it was so terrible that they needed to sell it on the 3D aspect. #piranha3d
@zark169: I know I already posted this elsewhere but if you have about 20 minutes to kill, click on this link: [wfmu.org]
and skip to about 1 hour and 22 minutes where Paul Scheer of Human Giant calls in to talk about his roll in Piranha 3-D. This is why I'm actually sincerely excited for this movie, which is clearly going to be terrible, but hopefully in a brilliant way. Also, Paul Tompkins and John Hodgman show up. #piranha3d
@josecanUC: I love the fact that everyone on io9 knows Buckaroo Banzai, and everyone else in the world don't. It's the special thing we share. #piranha3d
@jbq: There was a 6 hour episode of The Best Show on WMFU (I don't know if it's still downloadable in the archives, it also had Patton Oswalt and Aimee Mann in the studio) where Paul Scheer from Human Giant called in to talk about making this movie with this ridiculous cast and made it sound like a craptacular spectacular (but in a good way). I'm actually really excited for this movie, the way people were excited for Snakes On a Plane until the producers caught on and made it all snarky and meta. #piranha3d
@jbq: @josecanUC: @burlybax: I know this thread's been dead for a while but I wanted to put up the actual link to the audio I was talking about where Paul Scheer calls in to Tom Scharpling's show to talk about Piranha 3-D and makes it sound awesome. Apparently, it stars Steven R. McQueen who is the grandson of Steve McQueen ( the relevant bit starts around 1 hour 22 minutes in). Also, about a minute or two through Paul Scheer's call, Paul F Tompkins and John Hodgeman wander into the studio.

Also, it turns out Buckaroo Bonzai is on my friends' movie night agenda this week along with Baron Munchausen (two Adventures Of movies)
