Third world much? Folks do what they gotta do to survive. If they can eke a living out of this, then good on them.
You may note that no Zabbaleen has posted here.
Could it be that they're so busy trying to stay alive that they haven't logged in to air their views. Or could it be that they're so dirt poor that they may have heard of the internet in conversation but have never actually touched a computer?
@Hamslicer: I think of it less like an economy and more like an ecosystem. And life thrives in other areas off the waste of other organisms. As a metaphor, not a perfect mirror, of course.
@Hamslicer: It's crazy to throw away enough to sustain another economy, but sustaining yourself with what other throw away is not crazy, it's something that's always been done (perhaps on a different scale)
That is absolutely insane... but they do get props for seeing opportunities in all the refuse of Cairo. I just wish they didn't have to leave it on the roof.
@Lassus: ...or the future of fashion 90 years into the future. Apparently the Pluto-Martianians will be invading. How glorious I won't (hopefully) be around for that.
90 years ago WW I had just ended. Imagine trying to predict modern Germany based on the breadlines and Freikorps of that era? And would you ever predict a second cataclysmic war, followed by the establishment of an ultra-liberal state? The Berlin Wall?
