Purely narratively, and having nothing to do with internet withering hate of the show SPECIFICALLY, I'm wondering if anyone other than me has trouble with the premise/set-up.
I REALLY like the part when the entire world blacks out for 14 minutes (although I doubt they will fully explore the world-changing aspects of this event) but I REALLY hate the "see-the-future" part of it. That strikes me somehow as rather dull, or... something?
Oh shit, I know why. It reminds me of HEROES. See the future, fix the future. Ouch.
@Lassus: I thought they black out for only 2minutes...at least that's what was in the book and in the commercials. And not to blow anything if you haven't read the book, but this show is anything but Heroes. Lost would be the better comparison. As for being dull, there are some really good writers involved with the show, so I'm willing to give it a shot and see where they plan on taking the series. Besides, it's nice to see some kind of genre show on TV besides another cop, legal, medical show. IMHO.
@WellsJohnson: I do understand that as far as the writers. I was more trying to explicate my personal trouble with the premise, having nothing to do with the show specifically, as I said. And the premise - with future events and our effect on them playing such a huge role - is definitely reminiscent of Heroes, I'm sorry.
Subjectively, I'm just not liking it. Personally, I'd find the reaction to and effects of to such a wolrd-wide event infinitely more interesting than the "OH NOES THE FUTURE!" thing that I suspect will be the primary focus. But hey, I'll be thrilled to be wrong.
(Also, yes, I was way off, two minutes and 17 seconds for the blackout, as per wikipedia.)
@Lassus: Ah Wikipedia, is there nothing you can't do for us? But what if someone was making entries from the future on Wikipedia? In fact, I smell a new spinoff website! We can call it, Futurepedia: Oh Noes The Future Information Highway... Just think, we can make an entry in there which could help prevent the stock market crash of 1929 thus saving millions...um, wait a second, that's just not possible...silly me, they didn't even have computers back then. Okay, but what if we made an entry on how to design a computer and introduce the internet to people in 1928? Then once they see the entry, we could help save the stock market and profit off it at the same time! Oh yeah, this is sooo gonna work! You and I are gonna be rich, I tell ya! Super stinkin' rich!
@Lassus: Also not knowing anything about the book or movie except the premise, I'll admit to also not being especially excited about it. "Glimpses of the future" tend to generally expand as "you can change the future" and "you can't change the future."

I agree, it just seems kind of dull.
