    Sorry to be totally off-topic here (I know I should be talking about Rachel Weisz and how hot she is and wow what a lucky snake and oh by the way I can't stand Megan Fox), but I actually am pretty interested that Kusama's wanting to go in a Cronenbergish direction. She's shown she can handle visuals pretty well - for all the movie's flaws, I was actually pretty taken with much of the visual style of Aeon Flux - so maybe she actually can do gore-with-meaning. Her MO also seems to be to do projects with strong female leads, which is still in relative short supply. So I'm rootin' for ya, Karyn Kusama! And I think your brains are totally hot!

    The point is not whether either is hot or not and why. The point is, when it comes to women in sci-fi, on io9 lately, that is all we hear. The point is that if we reduce women to only their sexuality then we are dehumanizing them. Whether we think they are hot or not and for what reasons _is_ sexist if that is all we are reducing women to. The amount of sexist stereotypes flying around lately has been noticeably heightened. While both are hot for different reasons and both are not for different reasons, and eye of the beholder and all that... reducing every discussion to this does nothing for women or the level of discourse that we should aspire to. For a while there was discussion about Fox's acting and motives and etc. cool. But now they devolved into "whore"-typing. And the very fact that we are doing this shows us that she is smarter than all of us.

    @paintedangel: perhaps you should research the definition of the word 'might.' everyone judges people on their apperance and the auxiliary verb 'might' is indicative of the possibility, not the certainty, of the appreciation which is in turn indicative of further, unrevealed critera that have not yet been met. so it actually makes perfect sense and is decidedly the opposite of stating one and only one critera for judgement.

    These comment threads are incredibly degrading to the women they are about (and women in general) because most of you are limiting the discussion to only one quality: sexual attraction.

    And the io9 writers are fomenting that level of discourse by posting images that intended to be sexy and provocative - but are tangential to the topic of the articles. Meredith, you could have just as easily picked a screen shot from Constantine where Rachel Weisz is all yucked out and would have had more of a connection with the sexual gore that Kusama is talking about - or, I don't know, maybe a still from another of Kusama's films with Rachel's head photoshopped on?

    There are better ways to have these discussions and get page views.
