I accuse the real life superheroes of supporting an Evil Organization (Large Corporation-Type) that oppresses the little guy!

Their website was obviously made with Microsoft programs and only displays correctly in IE.

    For SHAME, superheroes!

    Embrace the open source!

@Evil Tortie's Mom: And they've forgotten the immortal words of Edna Mode:

    NO CAPES!

Really, if you're going to wear a costume and ignore both Edna Mode and William Rotsler, you deserve whatever you get as far as being laughed at.

Like, I have to be the mastermind back at HQ b/c I'm too wussy and out-of-shape to hench properly.

Aren't Facebook and MySpace too common and banal for an awesomely-logo'd bunch of villains?

I ended up Facebook friends (DON'T LAUGH) with one of the real-life superheroes after the first article about them a long, long time back. In general they're really good guys, with pretty good senses of humor and a strong interest in helping people out. They just do it with costumes on. The ones I've talked to don't seem to be doing it for the fame, nor do they seem to be unhinged in any significant fashion - they're about as sane as most regular people. I agree that it seems a little silly, and maybe it kind of is, but I think internet snark has gone a little too far when it's being focused on people doing volunteer work and helping others out. The actual crime fighting is obviously not the wisest choice, but there's plenty of non-vigilante stuff they do that should be supported, I think.

@Kpibca is a Superlibrarian: Well, Library Woman (reshelves faster than a speeding bullet! able to leap tall stacks in a single bound!), the thing is:

The costumes. The bright colors and spandex.

If they were doing volunteer work and patrolling in regular clothes, people wouldn't laugh nearly so much.

Put on a t-shirt (with a bright logo, fine) and a pair of jeans and they'd get more respect from both good guys and bad.

@Evil Tortie's Mom: You are right, though. That's actually one of the things I discussed with the real-life superhero who posted in defense of his pals way back when. I can't for the life of me remember what he said about it aside from it being fun and getting people to pay more attention to the volunteering, which is where I'd assumed it was about getting the spotlight. In the end, I think everybody is a little bit right: they're still doing good, the costumes are a little bit much, but people are benefiting from it even if a lot of people don't take them seriously.

And pockets. I don't care that they don't have them in the comics and cartoons, you need pockets or a Bat-belt.

@Evil Tortie's Mom: I really picked librarian 'cause it seemed like a fun thing to make super and isn't a hero or a villain, in case I need to switch sides. The closest I get to librarianism is using LibraryThing to organize my books. I'm a writer but those don't sound as intimidating as somebody who can hit you with the contents of a massive card catalog.

I suppose I should have said I'd sic the Evil Tortie on them. She has pointy little claws and teeth and she could shed on their costumes. Long fluffy cat fur that sticks to everything and contrasts with all colors.
