Out of all of this, I'm most bummed by what has become of Tim Drake, who for years became more interesting to me than Dick Grayson. I think he needs a fun team-up with Bart Allen and Connor Kent (does he even know they're back? I've missed a lot).
I'm always willing to give Morrison another try, despite the last two events he helmed. His hit rate is always around .750 with me. Winnick, on the other hand, I have forever sworn off. I seriously want that man back at Marvel and away from some of my favorite DC characters.
I've enjoyed Rucka immensely in the past, but for some reason his Crime Bible stuff just never caught on with me. Sad to hear he's still using it in Detective now (and with Batwoman again! That characters whole existence/appearance seems to be tied up with Crime Bible thus far. Expand!).
@DocSeuss: True - it's more a problem with the art in general. It's a little like whatever you see on the screen is the responsibility of the director, one could argue. Either way, I should have been clearer.
@ Graeme: You LUUUVVVVV Batman: Brave and the Bold and you're criticizing Grant Morrison use of outlandish characters? Not that I'm directly comparing the two - Grant Morrison is a genius - Batman Brave and the Bold is one of the most retarded cartoons I've ever seen. One clearly has questionable taste if they prefer the hideous Cartoon Series over the wonderful BATMAN RIP and FINAL CRISIS.
However, given that Grant Morrison is the ONLY reason I've deigned to buy a Batman comic book in like FOREVER, Clearly, Grant Morrison's Batman is the best BATMAN HAS EVER BEEN.
@SnehalMarten: You might want to double-check the byline, although I can understand the confusion (it's because I write in a Scottish accent, isn't it?).
Either way, I've got no issue with Grant Morrison's outlandish characters. I love most everything he's done from Animal Man to Doom Patrol to the Invisibles, and I'm generally well disposed to Final Crisis and (especially) Batman: RIP. I'm just saying that this new book will appeal even to those left cold by his last two works.
DC's Rebels is one of the best books out right now. The sociopath Vril Dox absolutely shines in this Science Fiction Opera. I plug this book for purely selfish reasons because I don't want it to get canceled. A very underrated book!
Something about the phrase "Light hearted Batman" makes me want to shoot myself. I may be weird, but I love when Batman is moody, anti-human, tortured, almost insane. He is the most human.
@Gothamite88: That's someone I can't relate to. I get depressed, but never tortured and insane, and find those kind of people very wearying in real life -- never mind plunking down money to spend my leisure time with them.
Brave and the Bold Batman is snarky, long-suffering, funny, and yet suitably super-heroic. I like him. He's not campy like Adam West's Batman, he's a mostly-serious guy who'll crack a joke when it's appropriate.
But, you can't be "alive and trapped in the past." I mean technically Abraham Lincoln is alive in the past. Lots of people are. In fact, I'd almost say that MOST people are alive at some point in the past.
More than are alive now, at least.
He can go back in time and get Batman, I guess. Can't the Flash time travel with that ridiculous treadmill thing?
Thanks, now I'll have to go to Red Robin for lunch. Bottomless Steak Fries!
@Frunobulax2099: Too bad they don't know how to properly cook those burgers. The second time I went there, I specifically asked for my burger to be just shy of burnt. I figured that would get me an edible burger, but no, for the second time I was served a piece of meat that was grey on the outside, pink on the inside, and lukewarm the whole way through.
@Evil Tortie's Mom: Oh, well, there you go. Maybe they just pull them off the grill at some point and wait for the "cook" time to finish. That way it takes longer to serve them up, but they all come put pretty much the same.
@iameleveneight: I tend to swing your way on this one. A light-hearted Batman? I've personally always enjoyed the dark, matured, could-possibly-be-mistaken-for-real-life approach to Batman. Anytime I see "light-hearted" and "Batman" in the same sentence, my eye seems to begin to twitch a little...

I'd love it if we took a detour from "Grit Yer Teeth Batman" and head right into "Science Ninja Batman" territory for the next twenty, thirty years or so.
Thank you, Morrison, for seemingly understanding that Batman is ultimately supposed to be fun. Between this and the Brave & The Bold cartoon, I'm indulging in more Batman than I have since Knightfall, where I dropped the series and never looked back.
@braak: Batman has been many things post Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns, but "fun" is not a word I'd use to describe him. Dick Grayson simply can't be painted with the crazy brush the way so many have delighted in doing with Bruce Wayne these last 20 years. And being Robin should be something of a child's fantasy: to dress up and go fight crime alongside Batman. I love Tim Drake, but he's never had that swashbuckling air about him that Dick Grayson did as Robin. Ironically though, Damien does because he's a nutjob.

What does he do, throw hamburgers at his opponents??
He should have taken over the Nightwing mantle..

"Guy wearing a mask" - for the record, the pun there is only very, very slightly intended. But I was aware of it!

Screw Superman.

Besides this isn't Bruce Wayne its someone else entirely, why should they act exactly like him?

So does that mean he's like stuck in the 80's? Walking around wearing parachute pants and going to see Kajagoogoo cover bands?

I think the point is that he didn't die as a result of his final fight in our time.

Glad to know I was wrong. This has epic fail written all over it, especially since its just a matter of time until things go back the way they were.

You must be reading a different set of comics than me.

That's because Tim Drake never had short-shorts riding up his crack.

I'm optimistic that the new Batman's first case will probably go off without a hitch.
