As much as I liked Brandon Lee the series never really escaped the tragedy of his death. The movie itself was just ok as it was considering all the post-Lee death adjustments that were made but there were some things that I could have done without that the movie did.
Eric Draven was a blue collar guy and not a singer of a grunge era band. He was a regular gut and his death and his girlfriend's death were fucking tragic because they were done in by punks on the side of the road. Not some criminal kingpin. What happened in the book was more relateable. It's the type of crime that happens every day. It felt very intimate which I think was lacking in the movie.
I hope this new take doesn't become too big in scope as it doesn't need to be. Sometimes smaller and more intimate is better. #thecrow
Wasn't the whole point of the crow that the spirit would reanimate different people until they got their justice and could rest in peace? Eric Draven is a single story, once he killed all those gang members his Crow powers should move on to someone else.
I never watched any of the sequels, but I gleaned that they were about Draven, which is completely against the concept of the book. Draven is not the Crow, the Crow is the spirit of vengeance that animates the unjustly killed. Even if Brandon Lee (who was very good in the Crow) hadn't died, the sequel would still require Eric Draven to be dead (or should have).
A proper anthology series (either tv or movies) could have been made from this, but star power + familiarity overrules common sense. After all this time, I'm almost hopeful someone figured that out. #thecrow
@BlueBeard: Actually, none of the film sequels were about Draven. They just had some supporting characters in common. I haven't seen the 3rd and 4th, but the writeups indicate they were about other incarnations of the character.
@BlueBeard: The sequels played with some elements of the original (I seem to remember that a grown up Sarah was the female lead in the second one). None of them were great, but that first one and the TV show (That featured a couple of other animal totems) tried to push the envelope a bit.
Also, Norrington did the original Blade. He can do dark and he can do pseudo-realistic. I'm very fond of the original and Norrington is honestly one of the only people I could see making a remake work. #thecrow
@Whitworthian: I think I may have watched some of that series, so I thought it was all about Draven, including the movies. I had no idea there were 4 of them, but then again look how many Prophecy movies they made, or highlander. #thecrow
but the make-up was symbolism of the character ,and so many things copied it to near annhilation like other comic characters ,even stupid wrestlers . Don`t reboot it and decide to jump away from the
character . #thecrow
Got to agree with everyone here, The Crow is one of those movies thats timeless and never needs to be redone and certainly didnt need any sequels.
And the whole POINT of the movie was it mimicked the book in that it WAS gothic and haunting. IT WAS a gothic lover seeks revenge story. Hell the playlist by which the comic book was made is literally the playlist of goth culture from the 80's - 90's.
Even if they stuck closer to the original story, and didnt add that whole Devils Night/ Gang war tacked on shit with Top Dollar, it would still be a pointless remake. #thecrow
I still love the Crow, a lot. And am much closer to a soccer mom than the goth-wannabe I was in high school now. It was just on SciFi last weekend for Halloween and I totally dropped everything and watched it.
That being said, I can't help but think that no matter how good this remake is, it will be reviled.... because you just don't mess with a classic! #thecrow
