Richard Donners presence can be explained due to the fact he's married to the X-Men franchise producer Lauren Shuler Donner, as far as i remember he even associatively produced the first X-Men film.
@smurph0404: I dunno, nothing in Sam Raimi's background would necessarily have led execs to believe he'd be capable of making a huge blockbuster, but he did. Sometimes it does work.
But that point aside, I agree that this is probably a pretty ominous sign that this is not one of those times.

every instinct I have says they've gone back to make this movie more 'fun'...you know, for kids!
