The Red Dwarf novels deal with the Backwards universe in more detail, to the extent of some very poignant and romantic concepts with the Lister/Kochanski thing...though I still love that episode of the show. I think it's the first I saw.

I think my reaction was something along the lines of, "This is sci-fi... but it's so stupid. I love it dearly."

@AshExMachina: Is that the episode where Lister's head problem clears itself up over everyone else?

as i recall living in rewind worked out pretty well for Rachel Weintraub, minus the first 26 years of course.

@tetracycloide: Eventually Rachel asks her parents to stop telling her what happened every morning so that she can spend the last of her years as an innocent child. To me Rachel's story is probably the most chilling moving part of the first novel.

there's also the Red Dwarf novel 'Backwards' where they drop Listers elderly dead body off on the Backwards world with a note to meet Rimmer Kryten and Cat at Nigagra falls when he turns 30... so he gets to live 30 odd years growing younger with a certain Kerchanski...

@KhaiJB: I've been looking for that novel for years; I read Better Than Life, in which Lister dies and is dropped off on the backwards planet, but could never find the next book in the series.
