I'm not sure about the comparison to
Tom Zarek's attempt to remake the show he was only a cast member of decades before. This guy CREATED V, it's his story. It would have remained his story and his vision if the power people hadn't made "The Final Battle" so different than his vision (I seem to recall that he wanted his name pulled from the second miniseries).
This guy created something and had it taken away from him, and now he'd like to further his own creation and that means whatever comes will be a BAD product compared to Tom Zarek trying to remake BSG? I don't see how these two things have anything in common.
Watch the first miniseries again... there's no lack of vision or storytelling in there. Then watch the second miniseries. I would think Johnson's vision should be taken more seriously, and not the vision of whichever tv executives worked at ABC in the 1980s. #v
There were 3 significant differences between Kenneth Johnson's version and NBC's: characters Ham Tyler, Elizabeth and the ending. Tyler was in a wheelchair but still a badass. Elizabeth didn't have superpowers; she was just really smart.
The biggest complant Johnson had about the second miniseries (V: The Final Battle) was tone. The moral ambiguity was removed. It was just good guys fighting bad guys.
The novelization of the 2 minis by A.C. Crispin is out-of-print but worth seeking out. It hews pretty closely to the minis that aired but had Johnson's original ending. #v
Well to be honest, a modestly budgeted Neill Blomkamp directed V movie could be outstanding. Though the establishing premise would seem a bit over familiar. #v
@Motoki: @Motoki: I like the idea of a sequel. Or a reboot starting on the V planet.
Spoilers to my sequel /reboot below!!!
Start it on the old home planet show a world dying from lack of clean water. "our leaders said global water pollution was a hoax!"
The corporations who controlled the media were fooled by the liars and hucksters who wanted to pollute. "We should force them to use their decpetion skills on some other race of people who have fresh water. who better to sucker others than our best liars and PR folks?
We have to trick them because they won't willingly give us the oil I mean water and the last time we tried to take the water by force it was an expensive fiasco. We need to put our best ad guys on this. What do humans want? Health. Money. If we offer health to the poor and money to the greedy we can have what we want. We still need to deal with the third primal emotion, sex. Do a scan of their tv shows and find us what the leaders want in female and male sex partners." They come back with Ronald Reagan and Monica Lewinsky. George Clooney and Meg Fox they base this on reading and viewing our blockbuster movies and political papers.
Hot chick and hot power men are created for the scam. You see all the behind the scenes planning. It is both funny (they think Palin must be the perfect combo of power and sexuality until they read some "blogs") you also get the desperation of the leaders of the dying planet. #v
@spocko: Have you looked at it from the other point of view? Good looking people offering hope, change and universal healthcare turn out to be bad guys. I'm sure someone is already spinning the show that way. #v
Time tunnel reboot: the first time tunnel people frak up the future. they cost Reagan his role in Casablanca so Bogart got it. This timeline got a great movie but a terrible President. This caused Gore to lose and the twin towers to collaspe. The people living in this timeline (us) finally created a time machine to fix the meddling of the Time Tunnel agents. #v
Yay for actors holding onto a career. I mean honestly, this just seems like Richard Hatch trying to relive his glory days. After watching that, I think we probably saw everything worth watching.
Lots of similarities there between this and the reboot. "They've evolved", "Cylon civil war", and the look of those swept forward wings on the new cylon fighters.
You know, I really miss the evil Baltar. Sometimes pure evil is more interesting than moral ambiguity and veiled selfishness. That evil smile of his really gives me the willies.

Pretty impressive for a presentation reel made for almost nothing without a studio. Again, with a budget and some decent scripts it could have been a fun show.
