The only remake I can truly recommend is The Thing.

Honor the classic SF of the 50s by making brand new movies based on unfilmed novels and short stories from the period.

JMS can best honor Forbidden Planet by changing the names of all the characters, ships, and planets. Then change all the actions. Then change the name.

I no longer have any faith in Straczynski. I adored Babylon 5, but did any of you see the movies later made (yes, they might have been straight-to-DVD--which not only reveals my incredible geekiness, but is a good indicator of quality)? CRAP! I repeat: CRAP! Shallow, nauseatingly Christian, with no layers of meaning or subtlety, much less subtext. I couldn't even finish watching the one I tried to watch.

AAAARGH! Robby was not a "star" of Lost in Space...
although he might have done a "cameo" appearance.

I'm torn. Forbidden Planet is one of those movies that should no be touched. However, unlike most TV/film writers, JMS is a lot more appreciative of SF classics.

At best, a updated tribute to a great work of SF.

At worst, an episode of Crusade.

@ManchuCandidate: I'm in the same camp. JMS would do a fantastic job, and while I love the original, I think that if done right, this one could be a good one to remake.
