    @van_line: Thought about those... but they're literally just a brain connected to a robot... not someone downloading into a robot body. Of course, I did include the Outer Limits episode along those lines, but I thought it was more of a "download" scenario somehow.

    @Grey_Area: at some point, with the amount of modifications and gene splicing that went into those bodies, one would have to question if there were really 'human' anymore. bio-organic machines maybe?

    @tetracycloide: Actually, Tak spent the first quarter of "Woken Furies" in a synthetic sleeve, which is essentially a robot body.

    and yes I know Ghost was mentioned in the list you did a while ago, but that Ghost was SAC: SSS, not the original movie OR Innocence...

    @dumanue: I include Ghost In The Shell in the "runners up" list... IIRC it's mostly cyborgs but there are some cyborgs who become full fledged robots eventually. But I admit it's a bit hazy.

    @dumanue: I find it pretentious because it's essentially talking heads. I thought the series did very well with questioning humanity up until the Puppet Master turned it into an info dump about existentialism.

    I'm a fan of showing the audience rather than telling them about it. That's kind of hard to do when you're trying to question what reality is, but I think it can be done.

    I felt very much the same way during chapters of 1984 where Winston is reading the rebel manifesto. I just starting spacing out and flipping pages until it finally moved on to what was happening to Winston.

    I suppose I care more about the characters and what will happen to them than what they think about during a philosophical discussion.

    So much love for including 8th Man in this roundup, don't even joke.

    But! No mention of full prosthetic bodies from the mind of Masamune Shirow? Ghost in the Shell? Appleseed (although that was kind of a broken Utopia)? I would KILL to be a full prosthetic in Shirow's GitS universe - even if being one comes with crazy existential philosophical issues on the meaning of sentience.

    You're right - the majority of the characters are cyborgs. The main characters however, namely Major Kusanagi and Batou and a few other appearing characters elsewhere in the series' and movie, all have full prosthetics. :) One of the things I found most interesting about the original GitS movie and manga is that it's explicily said in both cases that we have no idea how old the Major really is, how many bodies she's been through, or what semblance of humanity she must have left after so many transitions. The series tries to flesh out her past in an odd way, but in the movie and manga it's left entirely up to speculation. :)
