But we're all extra excited for the Rodney McKay art.

According to Dynamite, the SG-1 comic will be called Season Eleven and Stargate Atlantis will be titled Season Six. You see what they are doing here, yes? The SG-1 series will be penned by Doug Murray, SGA by Battlestar Galactica comic vet Brandon Jerwa and the new SGU series will be written by Chuck Dixon, with covers from Dave Dorman and interiors by John Watson.

These will be Stargate's second comic incarnation; Avatar previously held the license. There is no release date set just yet.

(No, this is not an image from the new comic - it's from artist twoseamfastball).

<![CDATA[McKay Gives A Glimpse Of Stargate's Backstage Raunchiness]]> Starcrossed, a comedy that takes you behind the scenes at the making of a science-fiction soap, may actually get its day on the small screen. Stargate's David Hewlett has some good news for fans.

When io9 interviewed Rodney McKay actor Hewlett, he mentioned his comedy project Starcrossed:

I have a sort of 30 Rock, behind-the-scenes-of-a-scifi show thing that I'm working on now, called Starcrossed, originally looking at developing it as a tv pilot but I think we're going to develop it as a film now, just to open it up for people. Basically we had a half-hour sitcom style thing.

We've been patiently waiting more news on this next project and finally Hewlett has twittered the good news:

SciFi/NBC Starcrossed conference call. Yes, after 2 years in development the plan is to shoot June or July...please be true this time!

Hooray, we wish you the best of luck. We've been feeling the lack of genuinely funny science fiction-themed comedy, so please make this one special. Interesting side note: Hewlett's movie A Dog's Breakfast, actually mentioned the Starcrossed series, and had a fake clip of the spoofed scifi soap staring Stargate Atlantis'Rachel Luttrell and Paul McGillion. See the clip above. I think it has potential to be really cute Galaxy Quest-esque series.

The full movie, where David Hewlett battles messes with his sister's new fiancé is on Hulu.

<![CDATA[Rodney McKay Is Breaking My Heart Into Tiny Pieces]]> My love for Rodney McKay from Stargate Atlantis is no secret. Which is why it pains me to deliver these great pictures stuffed with science celebrities and McKay's new sweetie. Find out who McKay is eskimo kissing in the new SGA episode. Spoilers ahead.

Not only is it the lovely Jewel Staite, Dr. Keller, but now she's all wet and it looks like she's scared — who can compete with that? No one! Not even if I came bearing baskets of baby bunnies could I out-cute Keller. She's classic cute, and has the cult following. Sigh, I'll step aside for such a worthy adversary.

Sure, a lot of us have seen the pictures of them on a date before, but there was no PHSYICAL CONTACT. But beside Keller and McKay canoodling towards my eventual black heart, this episode, "Brain Storm," is jam-packed with goodies. We've got even better pics of Dave Foley, Bill Nye and Neil deGrasse Tyson.

<![CDATA[Rodney McKay Twitters His Goodbye On The Last Days Of Stargate Atlantis Filming]]> Sadly, this week marks the end of Stargate Atlantis filming. David Hewlett (the great Rodney McKay) Twittered his goodbye yesterday from the set, "Shooting the last scene, of the last episode, of Stargate Atlantis...2 more days of filming but this is it...thanks so much everyone!" It hurts so much, but the pain is sweet because I'm even more excited to see the super expensive Stargate Atlantis movie. But while we're on Hewlett's Twitter we decided to round up a few fun memories from this years SGA filming. No big surprise that the man loves Doctor Who and blowing stuff up.

<![CDATA[First Pics Of Jewel Staite's Hot Date On Atlantis]]> Who's Dr. Keller (Jewel Staite) all twitterpated about? We've got new pictures from the set of producer/writer Martin Gero's "Brain Strom" episode for Stargate Atlantis, and they reveal Keller's new lucky man and a couple of amazing science-centric cameos including Bill Nye The Science Guy. Click through to see Keller's new object of affection — beware spoilers.

So it was no huge surprise that Dr. Jennifer Keller and Dr. Rodney McKay were going to start taking their flirting to a whole new level this season, I just didn't know it would break my heart to see them flirt so. Take care of him Keller, McKay is a jewel. Producer Joseph Malozzi included some pictures from the set of "Brain Storm" where Keller and McKay flirt and mingle amongst the brainiest of science minds including one Bill Nye the Science Guy and Neil deGrasse Tyson, very cool Atlantis.

Also it appears as if Kids In The Hall alum Dave Foley will have a little cameo in the "Brain Storm" episode. Classic. If this is what happens when Atlantis lets Gero direct, I say let's put him in the director's chair more often.

<![CDATA[In Defense Of Rodney McKay]]> It's come to my attention that there is a small band of unhappy Stargate Atlantis fans that are ripping apart my favorite SGA scientist, Rodney McKay and accusing him of being a whining, arrogant jerk. They're missing the point: the whining and arrogance are the main reasons I love that character! In a gateworld where too many members of the crew have one personality trait that they cling to for a whole series (inertly good, angry, or hates authority) McKay is veritable wellspring of emotion. He's the spice that makes this scifi show interesting, plus he adds a bit of reality. He's the show's everyman, plus he keeps Carter in check while everyone else showers her with love. But click through for the real reasons I love McKay.

Who could forget the first time McKay raised a finger to precious Carter? Classic. But even though they fight, you know they love each other, and I love the back and forth banter. Here's why I enjoy his little character nuances.

He's The Most Annoying When He's Nervous, And That's Endearing:

Season 5 episode 1 of Stargate Atlantis shoved McKay into a tight spot when he's forced to deliver Teyla's baby. He immediately starts yammering and comparing her birth to a kidney stone — oh McKay, you idiot. But he figures it out and gets all little-kid excited because he caught the baby in the end. Cute — not hilarious, but kind of stupidly endearing. He cares, and he makes up stupid examples when he's nervous.

He's The Everyman Stuck In A World Of Warriors:

McKay isn't the leader Sheppard, or the muscle by any means. What he's got is his wit and brains (which often fail to be useful as well, because Carter is perfect). When bad things happen to McKay, we see what would happen to an actual person with flaws. Not everyone can get impaled by debris and skip surgery to go save their girlfriends — some of us need a little rest. Oh yeah and he makes fun of Sheppard's hair, which is hilarious.

We Weren't Supposed To Like Him In SG-1:

McKay is like a fine wine, he gets better with age. When he was brought on SG-1, he was supposed to be a thorn in everyones side. But look how much he's grown. In the beginning, he told everyone they were wrong, and now he takes a back seat and helps out. That's growth, people — real-life character development.

Plus it was about time somebody gave Carter a little bit of grief, everything was always too easy for her. McKay was an important antagonist that needed to be added.

He's Us If We Lived In The Pegasus Galaxy, Both Good And Bad:

Take it for what he is, the man's got flaws but it's what makes him believable. Almost everything he does is on par with how my friends and I would act if we discovered a way to make a personal force field. We'd shoot at each other and joke about being indestructible.

Surely if we have room in our hearts for by-the-book Richard Woolsey we have room for a slowly-growing-into-maturity McKay.
