Well, getting a new doctor is always a little melancholy because the old one has to die first...and it's also a reminder he's running out of regenerations so one day it'll be his last death.

@Vulcan Has No Moon: Don't worry. When they get to that point they'll conveniently forget that there is a limit and anyone who says there is a limit will be taken behind BBC and shot.

I believe that the second Doctor stated that short of decapitation Time Lords were immortal. It was only later that limitations were placed. #doctorwho

@Jesse Astle: I hope they address the limitation in some way. They'll obviously find a way to conveniently bypass it, but I think it'll be interesting if they base part of the plot of an episode around how he manages to do so. It's easy conflict. #doctorwho

I was prepared to be all pouty about Tennant leaving and the new fellow taking over when a friend pointed out I'd been just as pouty when Tennant took over from Eccleston.

Can't wait for Waters of Mars and, well, can't wait for Christmas. #doctorwho

@Julius Seizure - Canuck: I'm trying to stay optimistic for that reason. Coming out of Eccleston, I loathed David Tennant all of the second season. By the end of the third season, I loved him, and by the fourth season, I couldn't imagine anyone else as the Doctor.

So, well, bring on Smith. If they can get me to like David's Doctor, then they have my trust with this new one.

I just can't promise I won't cry when, and maybe for a for weeks before and after, David leaves. #doctorwho

@Evil Tortie's Mom: R.O.A.C.H.: Heh... I've got to admit, I'm not a fan of Tate's comedy show (though millions disagreed, to be fair) and I would have gotten tired of a full series of Donna in Runaway Bride "shouty" mode within seconds. But I was quietly confident that Davies was smart enough -- and Tate a good enough actress, based on what I'd seen -- to kick it up to another level. Mission abso-fraking-loutely accomplished. I'm not ashamed to admit I cried like a baby at the end of Journey's End. The only reservation I've got about Waters of Mars/The End of Time is how the hell do you top that without toppling over into utter silliness? #doctorwho

No actor on this planet could have possibly shown the immense depth of her character in a mere 1-hour episode (with or without the wedding dress.)

Judging her potential as a companion based on that single hour was a foul and contemptible act.

I hereby apologize to Catherine Tate. #doctorwho

the only time i wasn't pouty was when eccleston showed up, because he could wash the taste of paul gann out of my mouth, if you'll excuse the grossly-misued metaphor.

and i wasn't that upset when sylvester mcoy took over from colin baker. #doctorwho

After the last two frothy and forgettable specials, this show needs to seriously bring it in order to give Tennant the send off he deserves. ESPECIALLY after how strong Torchwood was. #doctorwho

@Palmerlime: I agree, at least as regards the second special. It was a minimalist story that would have worked so much better as a regular-length episode -- instead we got mounds and mounds of padding that threw off the pacing in the second half and utterly ruined the whole thing for me.

I mean, did we really need the fake drama with all that gun-pulling in the UNIT mobile HQ? Why was the Doctor just floating around after getting the bus to fly, instead of flooring it? What was all that artificial tension with the windy descent machine in the alien spaceship in aid of?

This could have been one of the more memorable episodes in the new series, with its sparse, bleak atmosphere and the air of mystery and eccentricity surrounding the Doctor (especially when he shows up out of nowhere with his weird spinny dish thing). As such, I can only consider it forgettable. I do have hope for the next three specials, though -- I can't wait to see what Timothy Dalton does. #doctorwho

After watching (and loving) all the old Who, it was apparent when Baker's 7 year run started to wear on the show, and it was also obvious when John-Nathan Turner outstayed his welcome. Both of them were brilliant, but the story potential of Doctor Who is too wild to have the same people working on it for too long without things turning stagnant.

I respect both Tennant and Davies immensely for knowing exactly when to walk away. They're both did a fantastic job, but Tennant hit the nail on the head: leave them wanting more. New people = fresh ideas and fresh stories. I think the best thing they could have done for the franchise, after helping to make it such a success, is to leave with a bang... which is exactly what they did.

And now I get to see what awesome stories Matt Smith and Stephen Moffat can tell.

Im looking forward to this and the xmas special. But watching the banter between Tennant and Davis really bings to light how much im going to miss these guys next year. Hopefully the newDoctor will have good traits that will make him likeable. I was never a fan of Ecclestone being the Doctor, when he smiles he looks really evil. Children of Earth rocked and im going to miss Torchwood greatly if season 4 doesnt get made. I hope they do more with the alternate Tennant in that other universe. The last time I looked he had 1 heart, human and had kept all of the Doctors memories. They keep chirping on about the new film. Maybe Alternate Tennant will be passing on the final torch from the old series.

Actually, that's one of the things that made him a great Doctor. Tennant was the best but I wish there would have been more Eccleston before him.

@Isernbreegen: Im not convinced. Maybe its that meanicing coupled with the youth of Billie Piper. I was always wondering if he was going to take her into the Tardis and give her a good thrashing..and not the good type. He's an aweosme actor, dont get me wrong....but after watching Tennant I dont think I could go back to Ecclestone even though the episodes were brilliant. On an Ecclestone plus note....the whole Dalek/Doctor speech really was riviting. Now that were Ecclestone shone. His Thespian side was amazing.

I think it'll go kinda in this direction
    Hopefully...
    Or some direction like this.

"In 2012, Torchwood is public enough to be mentioned in a television broadcast during the London 2012 Olympics. In the novel The Twilight Streets, a potential future Torchwood Institute is shown to Torchwood Three by Bilis Manger (although as with all spin-off media, the canonicity of this remains unclear). In this future, Torchwood is no longer a private organisation and has branches all across the New British Empire (a dream once held by Torchwood). At the centre of the organisation's new image is the Cardiff branch, a new building in the centre of the city. The Rift Manipulator has been moved to the new building and has been plugged into a permanently comatose Jack Harkness, whose immortality allows the Rift to be held open safely, thus allowing two-way travel. The radio drama "Asylum" also suggests that Torchwood might gain control over the Rift in the near future, using it to send a half-alien girl back to the present day."

I agree about a bigger group. I luv'd smug Yvonne Hartmann from Torchwood London and their whole operation. In my fangirl dreams the team would be Jack, Martha, Mickey, Rhys, alternate universe Toshiko, Suzy and Ianto, Lois Habiba, Agent Johnson and Doctor Moon. Then lots of extras milling around.Hey, it's the Whouninerse-anything is possible.
