Calatrava certainly thinks outside the box. His wave design for the Tenerife Opera House is one of my personal favorites.

I recognize they certainly didn't have the budget to recreate it, but I'm always a little wary of virtual sets (of course, at this point I'm sure there are ones I don't even notice and I could be waxing foolishly nostalgic-there were a couple instances in Virtuality I didn't notice until later, for instance.) I just feel like with some of the bigger users (Sky Captain, Sanctuary, Star Wars) there are these endless scenes of people standing stock still staring at each other in the middle of abnormally large rooms. Kinda cuts down on the improvising in the space when deciding to lean against the wall takes the involvement of half the production staff. I totally understand the creative power it gives, and the cost savings as the scale creeps larger- there are just cases when I think the whole TV weathernan effect is not the way to go. #v

Since I live in Milwaukee I'll field this one:

1) Cool! that new wing is really pretty awesome.

2) The first picture shows one of the hallways (obviously) but it looks spectacular without all that crap in it with the sun shining in later afternoon. Just bright white marble and those 'rib bone' style pillars.

3) Pic 4 doesn't do the open space justice, its absolutely massive and gives a great view of Lake Michigan. #v
