Just how much of a happy ending is departing showrunner Russell T. Davies planning to give his characters?

The Sun is claiming that former companions Rose Tyler, Martha Jones and Sarah Jane Smith will all walk down the aisle by the time that Davies and Tennant leave the series at the end of the year. The newspaper even claims to know who the first two will be marrying:

Fans will see Rose Tyler - played by Billie Piper - marry the half-human clone of the Doctor in their parallel universe. Meanwhile, Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman) - her replacement as assistant - will tie the knot with Mickey Smith (Noel Clarke). Tennant will also make a special guest appearance in the CBBC spin-off The Sarah Jane Adventures for the wedding of his former companion Sarah Jane Smith (Elisabeth Sladen).

I'd love to be unconvinced by this rumor, especially since fans are supposedly taking credit for starting it in the first place. At the same time, this is Russell T. Davies, a man whose sentimentality and desire to bring back old familar faces knows no limits. I'm holding out hope that Rose's appearance ends with her turning to the camera and saying "I swear, you'll never see me on this show again. Honest," though.

<![CDATA[Sometimes A Police Box Is Just A Police Box]]> Sarah Jane Smith is stuck in 1951, and everything seems lost... until she spots a familiar blue box, in this clip from the latest Sarah Jane Adventures. I couldn't help getting my hopes up, even though the Police Box looked slightly off... but at least Sarah Jane learned once again that she can't rely on anyone else to save the universe... other than her small army of kids, that is. Spoilers ahead.

The latest SJA two parter, "Temptation Of Sarah Jane," was just as much of a weak copy of the Doctor Who episode "Father's Day" as we'd all expected. Instead of Rose saving her dad from a car accident, it was Sarah Jane saving both her parents from a car accident. And unlike Rose, who was a newbie time traveler dropped in the deep end, Sarah Jane knew just what she was doing and did it anyway.

As usual, though, the chemistry between the main cast members elevated the material quite a bit. I love Clyde figuring out he's stuck in an evil alternate present and dealing with it, and Rani showing up in the past and saying, "Hello, ethnic person in 1951." Ha. I have to admit, though, I'm not liking season two quite as much as season one — it's just not feeling quite as much fun this time around, and Sarah Jane isn't getting to be quite as awesome. Still, next week's reunion with the Brigadier looks like it'll be everything we could hope for.

<![CDATA[Sarah Jane Says Goodbye to Doctor Who]]>

As much as it may seem otherwise, one of the only non-spoiler things that we can say about tonight's UK Doctor Who season finale is that it's the last time you'll see Sarah Jane Smith in the series. But don't take that as a hint to the character's fate; it has much more to do with actress Elizabeth Sladen's knowing when to say goodbye.

Talking to Doctor Who Magazine ahead of tonight's final episode of the time travel show's fourth season, Sladen said,

This time, actually, I said to David [Tennant], 'I've never thought this before, but I think this is the last time I'll be here'. It felt like it was my last time on Doctor Who... I'm happy with that... You have to stop somewhere. And then I thought, well, I'd better enjoy these episodes. And I did. I had the most amazing time. It's been fun.

Don't expect that this means that departing showrunner Russell T Davies will get to go out with a bang that'll take care of Sarah Jane; Sladen is still slated to appear in the second and third seasons of her own spin-off series, The Sarah Jane Adventures.

Sladen unlikely to return to 'Doctor Who' [Digital Spy]
