”New America Revolts Against The USA
In the 22nd century, there's a new America, on a new planet 50 light years away, and the colonists are planning another American Revolution. That's the premise of the Sci Fi Channel's next backdoor pilot, Revolution, which could make for an absorbing series, with challenging political issues and a hardscrabble alien planet. (Or it could be another Flash Gordon.) Depending on how you felt about his performance in Ghost Rider, the fact that Peter Fonda is starring as the "robber baron" grandfather of the Hart family is either a good sign, or not. The fact that the U.S.A. is now called the United State of America has a nice dystopian ring to it. Fingers crossed. [The Futon Critic]Only Natasha Henstridge Can Stop Gravity-Warping Moonquake
Natasha Henstridge (Species, Ghosts Of Mars) is filming a two-part disaster miniseries that will probably turn up on the Sci Fi Channel sooner or later. Impact is about a meteor (or a dwarf-star fragment, in some accounts) which strikes the Moon and causes massive disasters on Earth — including the Eiffel Tower getting squashed and a high-speed train flying up into mid-air. But Impact isn't just about gravity gone awry — it has a vital message about international cooperation. Are you excited yet? More »Sci Fi Channel Brings You Superheroes In The Suburbs
If "Justice League meets Desperate Housewives" sounds like your ideal TV show, then you're obviously the Sci Fi Channel's main target market. For everybody else, maybe the Sci Fi Channel's latest collaboration with Virgin Comics, a comic about superheroes' naughty wives (and husbands?) in the suburbs, won't be as daft as it sounds. More »

Transdimensional Murder Mystery, Coming Soon
A gritty detective show that spans three different alternate universes is finally coming to the Sci Fi Channel in the U.S. Charlie Jade starts with a murder whose victim has no identity whatsoever, which is unthinkable in the dystopian, corporate-dominated world where Charlie Jade lives. And then in the course of the murder investigation, Charlie uncovers a corporate plot to steal natural resources from an alternate universe — and then he falls through a wormhole into a universe much like ours. The South African/Canadian co-production looks, from the clips I've seen, much gritter and more complex than anything else on Sci Fi... except for Battlestar Galactica, of course. Who Would Want To Be This Superhero?
The people competing to be Stan Lee's newest superhero in Who Wants To Be A Superhero? must not have seen his 2006 TV movie Lightspeed. Lightspeed stars Sean Connery's son Jason as Daniel Leight, a government agent who gains the ability to run at super-speed... but the speed is killing his metabolism. (Just imagine Stan Lee creating the Flash... again!) This is the only watchable scene in the whole thing, thanks to supervillain Python's dialogue about face-eating, blow-torch leg amputation, and severed legs running in circles. Actually, we're not sure what Python is talking about, but it sounds massively creepy.

Sci Fi Channel Copies Heroes A Year Too Late
The Battlestar Galactica prequel, Caprica, isn't the only show the Sci Fi Channel has on the drawing board. Sci Fi is also developing The Stranded, the show about ordinary people who realize they're superpowered aliens, which we mentioned the other day. And Sci Fi unveiled two other "backdoor pilots" at its upfront presentation in New York yesterday. More »

Sci Fi Channel Wants To Take Over Your Life
The new president of the Sci Fi Channel has a dream, and that dream is apparently to make sure that you will never be able to escape the Sci Fi Channel. Channel president David Howe has a scheme to branch out into comics, video games and advertising. The first guinea pig: alien infiltrator show The Stranded. More »

Will Battlestar Season 4 Suck?
With the fourth and final season of Battlestar Galactica about to premiere in less than a month, you can forgive fans for being excited. What is slightly less forgivable, however, is the excitement coming from nervousness that the final season is going to suck purely because it is the final season. The accusations are flying in a recent SciFi.com message board thread. More »
Sci Fi Channel Remakes Waterworld
Rising sea levels drive the remnants of humanity to live in the last remaining habitable land masses on Earth in Lost City Raiders, the Sci Fi Channel's $6.4 million tribute to Kevin Costner's Waterworld. Two groups survive the flooding of the Earth: the poor, who huddle in near-starvation, and the rich, who survived (or engineered) the disaster and now live in artificial islands. But a third group, the Lost City Raiders, searches the flooded remains of cities for treasures in their high-tech submarines. Until one day, the Vatican orders them to find the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth. But evil forces are seeking it too. [C21 Media]

Is The Truth Out There For SciFi Channel?
Sure, we may tease History Channel's UFO Hunters every Monday when we run down the shows you should watch each week on TV, but elsewhere on the internet, fans are wondering what happened to the SciFi Channel's show of the same name, that debuted on the same day and in the same time slot as the History Channel's series, only to disappear immediately afterwards. Is the answer related to the show's poor ratings, or something much more sinister?More »
battlestar galactica
Battlestar Galactica, the Sci Fi Channel's show about the remnants of humanity on the run from the cyborgs who devastated their homeworld, returns April 4. Women Hate The "Feminized" Sci Fi Channel
Has the Sci Fi Channel lurched too far towards being Lifetime: Television for Women, since its president, Bonnie Hammer, decided to emphasize "human drama" over space battles? Maybe, judging from the suburban Flash Gordan revamp and a spate of Battlestar episodes about Lee Adama's love life. The sad thing is that the Oprah-ized Sci Fi drives away women who really like science fiction, laments blogger Lisa Fary. [Pink Raygun]
Will A New President Give Us Better Scifi?
Dave Howe is taking over the reins as president of the Sci Fi Channel from Bonnie "I Cancelled Farscape" Hammer, and he has plans to grow the channel into a "lifestyle" brand. It's not yet clear what this means, but be prepared for things like a clothing line, breakfast cereal, women's fragrance, and neural implants. He also wants Universal to create a Sci Fi Channel movie label, which would be fine with us. In fact, we wonder if it's just a matter of time before there's a Battlestar Galactica big-screen movie. However, he also wants to have a lot more "reality" shows like Ghost Hunters, to which we collectively boo. Spin off a "Supernatural" Channel and you can put that spooky bunk on there. In the meantime, more death rays, aliens, and robots, please. [Variety]

Galactica Heading to Caprica After All?
Remember back a year or two ago when Battlestar Galactica was the darling of the airwaves, and everyone was praising it as the best scifi show to come out since... well, forever? Fans rejoiced when the producers said they were working on a new prequel series to be called Caprica, that would explore the days before the Cylon war, and would follow the family history of the Adamas and the creation of the Cylons. The SciFi Channel ultimately decided not to greenlight the project, citing monetary concerns. However, word is that the series may live and breathe at last, at least for two hours. More »

Where The Hell Is Our Diamond Age?
Last year at the Television Critics Association, where professional couch pota... er, critics get together to be spoon-fed updates from the networks about what to watch during the upcoming season, the Sci Fi Channel announced that George Clooney and his buddy Grant Heslov were developing Neal Stephenson's awesome The Diamond Age, or A Young Lady's Illustrated Primer novel into a six-hour miniseries. Well, it's a year later, so what's going on with our miniseries? Better yet, which Stephenson project do you think would look best in front of the lens? Vote after the jump and let us know. More »
