    @crashedpc: That and nonsense kanji words as tattoos are a constant source of amusement/pain.


    To combat this I've considered getting my surname done one the back of my neck--Hsiang (Hong in Cantonese or Xiang if you're a filthy Commie).

    Literal translation: neck, more specifically the nape.

    @crashedpc: No, "neck", Hsiang with the descending tone. My grandfather's birth name was literally "Flat Fragrance" though. He changed that as soon as he could.

    Then decades later he names me Chien-hung which comes out as something like "Origin of a Swan". He claimed it has some cool classic literary meaning but I keep thinking, "what like The Ugly Duckling?"


    Could be worse, A friend of mine had a cousin from Hong Kong who got "Vagina" as her English name.

    @Grey_Area: Whoa. I've worked at a Taiwanese company in the past, and some people have amusing English names... Apple, Sailer, Lazer, Asworld (we called him Assworld, naturally), Happy, etc. Then again, my parents gave me my Chinese name to match my English name. Or vice versa. They change stories everytime I ask.
