OK, so it's miners on a distant moon that made outland unique? Because the basic plot premise - a High Noon retread - could be adapted to any place with outlaws and lone man upholding justice. Sure, Outland was great. But it came from better source material.
I am glad that many of yo u are really seeing the drek YARM and we all agree that hollywood sucks.
now you all should just go and boycott them like i do.nearly every DVD i own was bought in used like new condition.i also never purchase anything of music from labels/artists who sign with the RIAA.
i hate both the RIAA & MPAA and lately i am seeing more and more films from my past being raped by corporate studios instead of producing more new entertainment.
i just want to give the least amount of money i have to give to a very greedy and corrupt industry.
And I am glad to see more and more folks out there using YARM and maybe even spending less.
I remember seeing Outland in the theaters and liking it a lot. But does that affection extend widely enough so that it really has a "brand" for a new film to capitalize on? Or is it more likely to piss off the Connery film fans while sounding "old" to everyone else?
I would be irritated because I love the first outland and its father High Noon, but really whats the point. I will go see it when it comes out and all the bitching in the world won't stop it being made.
@LittleDragon: Super Worthless Trivia Bonus:
The U.S. Marshal's office here in San Francisco has a mini-museum with artifacts of their history, it includes a prop badge from Outland.
@Grey_Area: How High Moon. it's a stoner buddy cop comedy, where pot is legal (called Moonajuana). Starring Dave chappele, The RZA, and Richard Dryfuss as the bad guy.
@Rasselas: I can no longer look at Connery's picture anymore without hearing him say: "A man walks into a bar. I forgot the rest, but your mother's a whore, Trebek!"

I thought the whole point of Outland was that it was supposed to be a scifi version of High Noon?
I'm heading into YARM territory here, but it's not really a remake, which makes it even more confusing.
I need some aspirin.
