Punishingly awful. You would think that the money they are saving by using 99 cent store plastic teeth on Ashley they could at least afford some decent CG and writing. Jeez, you have freakin' Tesla and Jack The Ripper on the show and they are reduced to semi-witty banter and standing around looking ponderous.
At least Flash Gordan was enjoyable. This show is just bad.
@Pope John Peeps II: I bet he tastes like chicken... I mean, that's what they say, right? Not that I'd ever try it, but you know, like just in case you end up in some crazy situation, not that I'd hope to, but, like, it'd be kind of good to know what to expect rather than just going in and taking a bite, right? Umm, nevermind, forget I said anything.
Am I the only one who thinks I might just enjoy a show called "Cabal" who's stars occasionally tussle with people from "The Sanctuary" a lot more than the other way around?
The writing is so terrible on this show; I must be a glutton for punishment. Does buy the attitude or dialog of anyone here. For example during the car chase? "I'm home, baby"?
In any case, do not hesitate to do recaps of Vampire Diaries. I'm surprised (although, although as a man, embarrassed) how good it is. This one isn't surprising me, except for that episode in the submarine.
The CG on Sanctuary..Sanctuary looks best when the sets are real. At any other time, the depth-of-field is strange and the virtual sets do not make sense. Example, why do they have conversations in the middle of that large circular room what is apparently their 'laboratory'? (The AC wall plugs must be 20 meters away!) The Cabale's laboratory, by comparison, was an actual set - and therefore not distracting. They do seem to have a new, better, cg 'castle' this year.
Eventually, 'cheeze' not so much a factor of budget but of lack of the taste of the producers. You have to know to drop effect you can't really do it or are not central to the story. You have to see, hey this dialog is stiff, etc.
I saw the entire first season and I thought that the show might have some potential. I watched the second season's premiere and I'm more than ready to stop watching. As much as I like the cast, there doesn't seem to be anything really interesting in this show anymore.
I loved this episode- luckily I caught some of the marathon earlier to remind me how the last season ended (it feels so long ago).
The show is pretty bad in its way, but still really enjoyable. When a show isn;t terribly serious i can forgive it a lot, while a show like BSG gets a lot less leeway (and no forgiveness for that debacle they call a conclusion)
Next episode, Ashley and her friends break into the Thriller dance.
@BlueBeard: I agree. Sanctuary is like that book you read before you go to bed: Light enough to keep your interest but not so heavy to keep you awake, thinking about what could happen next.
I just want to send my condolences to Jonathon Young (he plays Nikola Tesla on Sanctuary) whose only child, his 14-year-old-daughter Azra, along with his niece and nephew were all killed in cabin fire a few months ago while he and his wife were asleep next door. I just can't imagine how painful something like that must be.
This show is OK, not much more. It's also painfully obvious. All these "smart" people and I figure out what's going on while not even really paying attention?
Did anybody not see Kate's escape by chocolate bar coming? Even she saw it coming.
It was blatantly obvious that they were turning Ashley into a monster to copy onto the blank slates.
Why do snipers always leave the laser dot on the target for several seconds?
I, for one, will be shocked when they get Ashley back to normal. In fact, I hope they don't so they can surprise me just once. It would add some nice angst to Magnus.
Creepy Science Mommy Lady is quite amusing.
I don't think Magnus shot her foot, she shot near her foot to scare her.
@Dr Emilio Lizardo: It looked to me like she did shoot her leg or foot, but what bothered me is that anyone cares- this is the enemy, and Magnus didn't live to be 160 years by being a goody goody. i want to see her ruthless side when the situation requires it.
Also, I absolutely want to see Helen unleash John on that Cabal leader(and everyone else in the building) using the words "Show them what happens to people who come after Jack the Ripper's daughter."

That ending scene had me laughing. The way they turned around all together looked like they were performing a dance.lol.
Too bad the acting isn't good enough to make the characters meaningful and the budget(?) too small to openly explore any weird concepts. It's all very vanilla but fun.
Vampire Tesla is great - given how much nerd-dom tends to idolize him, it's cool to see a different take on him. Obnoxious vampire is a suit that fits surprisingly well.
The allusions to his hair-phobias in reference to Bigfoot had me chuckling as well.
I found brainwashed monstermachine Ashley a lot more interesting than the stock 'I kick ass but also I'm a girl isn't that shocking omg' cutout-with-a-bad-wig she was in the first season.
Generally, I have some hope for this season -- with a season already under its belt, maybe the writers won't think we need Will as our POV character anymore, which will allow them to either make him more interesting, or focus more on the interesting supporting cast.
I do agree that the show just needs to embrace the insanity. Sanctuary has it in it to be a really fun show, I think.
Also, I'm going to start a band called Vampire Teslas.

it was... i dont know... something different. It was diffidently a scene that you could use to cut into the opening credits or promos.
but i like this show.

And why not? It's fairly decent cheese, and certainly better than most of the drek served up to the masses lately.
