Taking alien tech and reverse-engineering it using a Mac, the human race refurbishes the battleship Yamato and sends it off to fend off another wave of alien attacks.

What do you mean "it's been done"? #independenceday

I think a good sequel storyline would involve humanity reverse engineering the alien technology, discovering the whereabouts of the alien homeworld, and then build their own pre-emptive attack force. On their way, past the point of no return, something goes wrong and the human mother ship must scour other planets for resources, including an inhabited one. Oh wait, I must be thinking of Robotech and Avatar mixed together. Nevermind. #independenceday

I Like the 2 movie story arc, very Kill Bill-ish.

So I'm guessing that Will Smith's character is the President of the United States and Earth has seriously upgraded their defenses with alien tech. Then of course the aliens return and there's a big awesome battle.

Then at the end of the movie, it's decided that the battle needs to be taken to the alien's Homeworld to end their threat once and for all, which sets up the next movie. #independenceday

I am going to write my own version of the sequel(s) and see how close they end up being to Emmerich's own. My version will probably only be one page long since that's all you need to make a sequel to Independence Day. #independenceday

Whatever he decides to call it, the plot should be discovering that letting giant spaceships tcrash into Earth was not such a good idea after all. Jeff Goldblum's character should be start the movie working at Best Buy and Will Smith can be the charismatic love him or hate him US President. #independenceday

Not the character; the actor. #independenceday
