Anna was the only character I liked in the whole pilot. How are we supposed to root for humanity when the aliens are lead by Morena Baccarin and the human characters were mostly jerks? #v
@charliejane: Not to be a colossal pedant, but it really should be "as an emigrant from Brazil" or "as an immigrant to the US", not "as an immigrant from Brazil". :)
But I think you redeemed yourself with the "due to some kind of sporting event". *giggle*
I don't think the show promotes xenophobia. There are enormous motherships hovering over every major city in the world, their leader speaks every major language fluently, they are curing diseases, telling reporters that they aren't allowed to ask questions that could put them in a negative light, and to top it off, these visitors are only pretending to be human and have been in sleeper cells for years just waiting to take over the world.
Considering all those things, I think one would be a bit suspicious and say "what the heck is going on here?" I don't think the show was intending to promote xenophobia.
I also don't think it has anything to do with Obama. It just happens to be coming on the air at a time when some of these same issues are getting major coverage in the news.
@Darklighter: I think that's another of the works of the great Garrison "It's A Disaster" Dean.
Anyway, she can't be president b/c she's not a native-born citizen -- just like the Governator can't be. She could be Secretary of State, like Madeline Albright was, if she's a naturalized American. #v
@Darklighter: *sigh* Friends with Grey Area, I see.
By the way, I voted for Obama. Can't I be jaded? So sue me if I've lost faith in the integrity of politicians, regardless of political affiliation. Sor-ry. #v
She's just so pretty, if it were reality I would be totally captivated by Anna, even my wife commented on it and she hardly ever admits a woman is pretty. I find her more attractive here than I did on Firefly, and for some reason it's her shorter hair. #v
@Xeno: Typically, I don't like really short hair on women, but I am a sucker for a woman with her hair pulled back or done up so I am impartial I guess. Her short hair in this show and on her characeter is just something else to me.
@dkissam: She does doesn't she I tihnk it's because she has really pretty brown eyes, the only other women with brown eyes that are that pretty is my wife. #v
I'd love to see a show/movie where the aliens who come to earth offering us peace and health etc are utterly horrible looking, slimy, foul smelling with nauseating habits...but are really nice.
Baccarin is a stunningly beautify woman and I'm glad she's getting work, but I'm getting a bit tired of the 'all that glitters isn't gold' trope #v
@goldfarb: I'd like to recommend to you the book "Agent to the Stars"
by John Scalzi. It is funny and the aliens are JUST like you describe them! Plus, it is available free online! [www.scalzi.com]
Scalzi has a bunch of great books in the "Old Man's War" series but this is stand alone. Scalzi is also a consultant to Stargate Universe and I WISH he would have more input than, 'They only have a certain number of bullets so each one counts." He writes very funny dialogue and I think that he creates some interesting moral dilemma for his characters.
Check out Agent to the Stars. #v
@spocko: cool, thanks...Scalzi's "Old Man's War" is about 8-9 down on my current pile of books...might have to do some shuffling...and grab Agent To The Stars on the weekend! #v

unlike when other actors talk about the company and lawyers, and how those groups control what they can say.
it's very respectful.
Morena Baccarin FTW #v

I kid. My main question is, has anyone seen Anna's tourist visa?
I think the political thing is way way WAY overblown here. And it may be getting overblown by the creators to start with, but either way, meh. #v
