I once made an opinion about a movie (Terminator 2) before seeing it that later cost me. I remember bashing the concept of Arnold being now the "good guy" as total BS. Then I saw the movie and learned to NEVER try to judge a movie until it comes out.
Seth Rogan as the Green Hornet?
When you had a guy like Van Williams cast in the TV role, casting Seth in the movie was like asking Woody Allen to play Wolverine. Oh, man I had flashbacks to my ranting about Terminator 2! Only in this case it was slightly different because I have always been a rabid fan of GH since way, way back.
I’ve always said that GH (the series) was the leanest action show ever made (and as far as the serious superhero/vigilante genre way, way AHEAD of its time) and that all it really needed (if a movie was to be made) was some more character background, origin of the friendship between Reid and Kato, even a passing mention of the link to that masked man and his Indian friend of days ago. A move that would be kind of what Zach Snyder did, by adding the Queen plot, to the 300 movie.
I want to see a good GH movie. I want to see the balance between the two worlds (Reid and Kato’s) explaining how the strong friendship and partnership grew. I want to see a corporate/Wall Street villain along the lines of a Gekko (Michael Douglas) and not some over the top crazy bad guy like a bat villain.
Seth Rogan as the Green Hornet? I dunno. I won’t make the mistake I did all those years ago. For now, I’m staying away from the gossip and rumors and waiting to see. Albeit with some trepidation.
@burlybax, AngryEddy, AshThePirate: Oh...my...god... True story: GF and I watched Zack and Miri Waste Your Time and I started busting up when Brandon Routh reared his head. GF asked why. I played snotty, indignant sci-fi nerd and informed her.Normally, this is the part where she falls asleep while I am still talking, but for some strange reason, she commented. I quote her: "Wouldn't Justin Long make more sense as Superman than that guy?"
I was stunned. I said "sure" and proceeded to shut up the rest of the movie. That night, a long series of very specific nightmares about Auschwitz looking Supermen began.
Dr.Quatermass: I have to say Dr. You are once again spot on with that oberservation and anything I am about to say that contradicts this statement is strictly for humor sake. was starred

@disatess: I am a firm believer that anything that Nic Cage leaves means that it was going to be at least OK. Nothing but terrible movies from him in the last five years, at least.
@disatess: While Nic Cage is a comic buff, he's also a terrible actor who only broke into Hollywood through his famous bloodline. Seriously. Guy had like three or four good movies in him, and he needs to stop for a while.
Do I ever not give a crap about this film. Even as a little kid when this was a TV series, it was Batman all the way. Green Hornet was never a big deal until years later when Bruce Lee hit the kung fu wave and made it a retro curiosity. After GI Joe plops all over screens in the next while i'll look forward to a re-imagining of Rat Patrol with Nazi lasers!
I just saw this last night and boy, I have to say, Annalee, you were WAY too kind. This movie was terrible. Not a single original idea in the whole film, not a glimmer of self-awareness or self-effacement, and not a single genuine laugh. Even at 90 minutes, it seemed to go on forever.
Plus, I can see why they nearly removed the cancer subplot - it was offensively facile. So he's dying in 3 months but not on constant medication or in any pain or looking the least bit unwell, and hearty enough to climb walls with a grappling hook? Don't his parents worry about him disappearing for a few days? Add to this the fact that he can die happy after seeing THAT horrible film...it's just pathetic.
Nick Cage hamming it up as a mobster in a Green Hornet movie with Seth Rogan, directed by Gondry, and probably Kung Fu fighting Kato would have been genius!
@CoffinDodger (If the typos crap. Blame my keyboard): Maybe not a hairpiece, probably plugs. Plugs from a yak's ass, that gives him the hairline of a 1970's GI Joe, but it looks like it grows out of his skull. Travolta on the other hand...
Every movie I can remember him in either falls into the polar reaches of good or bad at the flip of the coin.
I like: Adaptation (his best work IMO and the main source of my general good will towards him), The Rock (yea really), Face/Off (you know it to be true), God of War, Leaving Las Vegas, The Weather Man, and Matchstick Men, Raising Arizona, and 8mm (I think).
But cringe at the thought of: Wicker Man (natch), Con Air, Ghost Rider, Bangkok Dangerous, Gone in 60 Seconds, Next, City of Angels, Windtalkers, those Nation Treasure movies, and Snake Eyes.
In both cases though I think it comes down to the quality of the projects as a whole rather than just him.
@omgwtflolbbqbye: I agree with your movie breakdown but I was disappointed with the Weatherman largely because the trailers led me to expect a different kind of film.
I became a fan of his work in 1987 with Raising Arizona. I think that many people have become disenchanted with Cage because we know that he can do better. He has done some fantastic award winning work but unfortunately, his choices are sometimes baffling.
As George Lucas knows, you disappoint your fans again and again and they will turn on you.
@omgwtflolbbqbye: actually, all the movies you mention you like, I like as well... although I haven't seen The Weather Man. Kind of want to see God of War again.
I've only seen a few of the ones you didn't like.
He's a good actor who thinks he's an action star, but he's actually just a better actor than action star. Usually it's the other way around.
Kato's stunt double. Dude playing Kato is a pretty boy and that aint him. I'm not looking forward to this at all simply because it's NOT being taken seriously. Seth Rogen should NOT be playing the character.

Now, where was I ? Great clip! I love how he concentrated on the TV screen and didn't even look when he poured the booze - such focus!

Why is that a good thing? Did he cut you off in traffic or something?
You need to watch Matchstick Men.
