AngryEddie got it rigth. What makes the idea of zombies so scary is that their numbers increase insanely rapidly. They don't have to move fast to be creepy.

@capntim: But I'd argue that the symbolism of zombies -- the fact that they represent the slow march of inexorable death, the futility of escape, the overpowering of the individual -- requires that they be slow shamblers. We can escape death if we're fast, or lucky, or smart. But only for so long. In the long run, no matter how slowly and lurchingly death approaches, we will all succumb.

Meh. I love me some Pegg, but speedy zombies are awesome. Scarier, I think. In old monster movies I'm just like, "They're slow, just walk away quickly and you'll be fine."

I think the Zombie Survival Guide would be a great reference for Pegg. But who am I kidding, he probably has his dirt bike, leather jacket and katana ready to go at the first sign of the undead....

@Irrafixable: Katana are only really good if you are trying to remove limbs before the kill, which is a silly idea anyway. Also, use of a katana requires extreme skill and practice. Use an axe or hammer type object.

The "zombies" in 28 Days Later are not zombies. They are the result of a virus and not undead. The priest in the beginning even had some measure of control over himself so as to not attack the main character right away. I don't think that movie should be lumped into this annoyance with "fast" zombies. However, I agree that there should be no fast undead zombies.

Kudos. Zombies, in the traditional reanimated-dead form, shouldn't run. I was never convinced the speed demons in, say, 28 Days Later were actually undead, so they can run all they want. But the undead shouldn't run. The zombie's strength is in its ever-increasing numbers, not to mention the uncanny ability to be exactly where it's most effective to catch victims off guard.

Slow zombies, FTW.

What if Zombies are slow, but when unwatched are in a quantom superposition?

Purhapes with their non-life, their inability of observe oneself means their quantom waves dont self collapse [/psydoscience FTW]

Could be a dr who story in that I think.
