    What about House of Leaves, by Mark Z. Danielewski? I would think that a house that is continuously getting bigger from the inside, and enjoys messing with people would be noteworthy. #house

    I've read the 2006 House. It wasn't very good at all. Stephen King's Black House (the sequel to The Talisman) is better, in my opinion. #house

    @Belabras ate my dingo!: I never liked The Shining. To be fair, I've been meaning to try it again. Jack was an alcoholic, but he was clean for a long time. They stay at a hotel and he starts drinking again. Why the change? I couldn't get through The Stand either... #house

    I believe the idea is not that Jack fails, but rather that Jack isn't strong enough to withstand the Overlook's influence. And Jack fights against it too, successfully in the end, though it costs him his life. #house

    This is by far the coolest Youtube clip I've been able to find on The Haunted Mansion. Somebody was able to dig up an old park souvenir film on Super 8 and then dub the sound.

    Honestly, I'm so obsessed with this ride that I think the American Medical Association needs to recognize it as a health condition.

    ps: if any of you nice folks happen to have the picturebook version of the old Disneyland theme record, I will barter, trade or pay for a copy. Ron Howard does the voice of a kid who gets trapped inside and it's "5 out of 5" on the cool-o-meter.

    @kolacek: The Haunted Mansion is low-tech by today's standards, but it gets the job done. No blood, gore, or violence, just spooky and eerie. Even when you know what's going to happen, it still works. #house

    @kolacek: This is embarassing, but in my one trip to Disneyland we didn't go to either the Haunted Mansion or on the Pirates Of The Caribbean! Country Bears Jamboree, eh.

    This was in the era when Space Mountain was the big thing, and we only had a day at the park, so I hope you'll forgive me. #house

    @Wookie1972: You know, honestly...I could understand a pass on the Haunted Mansion. There are usually 100 rude teenagers in line.

    But missing Pirates of the Caribbean...wow!

    Were you stuck watching kids that day? Or were you a kid and not in charge of your activities?

    @kolacek: I was ten, and my interests ran to 1) Star Wars 2) Star Wars and 3) Star Wars, so Space Mountain was my first choice. We also went on Thunder Mountain, and my brother went on the Matterhorn twice and teased me relentlessly for being too scared to go on it. Don't know why I wasn't interested in Pirates. I remember some weird one where they "shrunk" you down a la Fantastic Voyage, do you remember what that was called? #house
