Is this done by the same people who did Andy Richter Controls the Universe? Very similar feel and two actors in common. It only had about 15 episodes but I'm telling you every single one is pure gold. Hope BOT keeps it up.
That you thinkg How I Met Your Mother is better thatn Scubs call into question everything you say. That show blows mainly because it tries to have a heart in a show about a guy telling his kids about all women he banged before he got married. It's awful from concept to execution. Better Off Ted stands heads above it in both humor and warmth. But it's clearly not on a 30 Rock level where they'll throw three brilliant jokes at you at once.
@nutmeag: Actually, I'm referring to the "heart" thing. It's awful every time the show tries and it tries every week with these cloying romantic attempts when it's about a douche telling his kids about all the women he's banged. It's never had a heart so how could it have more heart than Scrubs?
@NotArthurPDragon: Scrubs is terrible right now, unwatchable. And yes HIMYM is sappy heart but it's all there. It's sweet. Lilly and Marshall have my heart. And all the NPH stuff is really tongue and cheeck, come on now you know this. Scrubs right now is nothing to me I'm not comparing shows I consider over or else I would of included Cheers, MASH, Arrested Development and so forth.
i was a little sad that ted's daughter wasn't in this episode as her anacdotes in the primere formed a perfect juxtaposition with the office peons of veridian.
@Meredith Woerner: I mean, that is a manner of opinion. Personally, I still think Scrubs does a pretty good job of being the show I love. I don't see why we need a snide remark with the thoroughly overdone cough-cough, when talking about a good new comedy, which in all honesty will probably get canceled like most good shows do.
@dmanatunga: Ok next time I'll right that new Scrubs is terrible and breaks my heart everytime it is on because it is no longer funny and watching the shells of characters I love dance about on screen with completely abused plot lines makes me ill. I'm not sure what you want from me here? This is my opinion feel free to make your own anytime! I'll listen.
You know, the first three episodes of No Heroics were really hilarious and amazing, but then it got sappy and started trying to take itself seriously with a tangential love interest story....
This was already tried with the live action Tick show. That lasted what, three episodes? The cartoon was much closer to the comic and was more enjoyable, I think.
@Skunky: I'm not sure what the corollary between this and the Tick show are. The Tick show was about super heroes actually doing heroic things at least occasionally. This is a show about really bad superheroes, who never really do anything right and sit around getting drunk all the time.
@Allard: In the Tick, it's usually the Tick that does all the hard work, sometimes with Arthur or American Maid (one of the few competent heroes in The City) helping. In the live action one, they changed the names of American Maid and Deflatermaus and changed them into some sexually repressed losers that mainly just argued for awhile before pawing at each other again. Even the Tick himself was less useful than in the cartoon.
Meh. I watched the first episode of the original and I didn't care much for it. It seemed like nonstop sex jokes, if you ask me. Don't get me wrong, sex jokes can be funny, but you can't have nothing but them.
@Platypus Man: Yeah, I almost gave up after the first episode as well, but thankfully, they found their footing in the later episodes.
There are still plenty of sex jokes, and some gags that fall flat on their face, but overall the series plays like a NC-17 version of the live action Tick.
God I hope they don't screw this one up. When I heard that No Heroics was coming to the U.S. I figured it was the original version which I was never able to finish. This news of a remake is troubling.
Nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing, about this looks good. It doesn't look funny, it doesn't look clever, it doesn't look original, and it doesn't look interesting. It looks like a misbegotten amalgam of shitty writing, shittier effects, and god-awful acting.
Frankly, it shakes my faith in io9 and many of its patrons a bit to see how well this has been received so far. Unless the trailer is completely misleading, this can only be terrible. Most likely it will never be picked up, and if does get picked up, I have no plans to ever watch it. I'm not even going to watch the making-of video posted above. No thanks.
@MikeSmith: Actually, if you look thru the comments, they're about 50-50 between people who agree with you, and people who think it looks fun. I think it could be fun, although a lot depends on how they develop it into a weekly series. I have a high tolerance for cheesiness sometimes though.
"...the show is done very cheaply, using a greenscreen for all the backgrounds, but the cheapness is part of the show's humor..."
Did you say cheap? Did you say cheap?
I would be hitting up the Sci-Fi channel. Make sure you mention the word cheap every other sentence. They will like that. And also mention: no actors who will receive mandatory annual increases in pay. They will like that also.
Also mention that show is extremely dumb. Dumb sells well these days. They will like that.

Yes, new Scrubs is slowly wiping clean last season's bad taste.
And since this year will be the last, I'm fine with just that.
