@palewook: that show was horrible. its one of those things where it tries to be a relationship drama and tries to be sci-fi and appeal to both audiences. unfortunately that fails almost all the time.
The worst thing about labelling things as "hipster" is that nobody identifies themselves as a hipster, and so there's no agreement on what exactly a hipster is. Personally, I am really excited for this movie and will probably see it twice.
@Nick Hall: I would love to find the article about LA hipsters for you I read recently. Basically, these stupid shits say they -aren't- hipsters and display faux-indignation at the word, but they know that the style they are consuming (tight jeans, ironic t-shirts, kafteh scarfs, oversized sunglasses) are hipster and refer to it as such. More just fetishizing youth & inexperience in the name of commerce.
I'm struggling to overcome my disappointment that the studio's suggestions to add Miley Cirus as Max's love interest, the backstory of Max being raised by Shaolin monks (to explain his mad Ninja skillz) and the lack of Transformers abilities (and laser death-rays) for the monsters didn't make it into the final draft. Let alone the toy merchandizing opportunities left on the table and the Happy Meals not manufactured. Nonetheless, I'm guardedly optimistic that this little cinematic trifle has promise.
@rhys1882: Yeah, it doesn't seem to be letting up. SF State is nearing Berkeley in indigenous coffee swigging, $500 laptop bag toting smug.
On a related note, hipster cafes will probably replace the space in the Metreon that used to house the Where the Wild Things Are play area/exhibit. The only positive is the Tavern on the Green being built, which actually looks kinda cool.
I'm very excited for this movie. That said, I expect it to do very poorly in theaters. It's not made for its target audience, if that makes any sense, and while I'm sure I'll see it I don't see many children being pulled in.

Off topic - you have an awesome name. Black Stig is dead only when we forget him.
